DiCaprio Debuts Voting PSA

3 October 2008 12:29 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Leonardo DiCaprio made a surprise appearance on comedienne Ellen DeGeneres' talk show on Thursday when he showed off his new public service announcement (PSA) aimed at young U.S. voters.

DeGeneres agreed to be one of the talking heads urging America's youth to hit the polls in November and vote for a new president, and DiCaprio, the force behind the new campaign, turned up to hand deliver the PSA to her on her TV show.

The Titanic star invited a host of celebrity pals to his Hollywood home, where the PSA was shot, to speak their mind about the importance of voting.

He told DeGeneres, "Forest Whitaker, Tobey Maguire, will.i.am and myself were talking about how soon the voter registration deadline is and it's only days away and, with 35 states in our country, the deadline is October 6th - that's this Monday... so we really wanted to do a PSA to really encourage people to get out there.

"This is one of the most important elections of our lifetime and we really need to tell everyone we know to get out and register.

"We have this campaign that's, 'Tell five of your friends,' so if you go online, at least send it to five friends and it's gonna spread like wildfire."

In the PSA, DiCaprio, Whitaker, DeGeneres, Maguire and stars like Dustin Hoffman, Demi Moore and Usher poke fun at those who have not registered to vote, saying, "Don't vote."

Other celebrities join the ad, with Courteney Cox asking, "Who cares about your children's education." And Jamie Foxx and DiCaprio ask, "Who cares about global warming and the fact that our polar ice caps are melting," as Jennifer Aniston chimes in, "I hear polar bears can swim!"

The ad has already achieved it's initial goal - DiCaprio explains, "In the first hour (of posting it online) we got 10,000 more people registered to vote."

Cameron, Keanu, Jim and Jenny Join for a Night at the Movies

2 October 2008 7:05 AM, PDT | From Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news

Fresh from a weekend on the set of Yes Man, Jim Carrey went out with Jenny McCarthy for AFI's Night At The Movies presented by Target in La. They weren't the only stars out for the red carpet — Keanu Reeves kept it typically dark while Cameron Diaz had that in love smile on her face though no hot Paul by her side. Plus at the end of those long legs were some adorable polka dot shoes. The event included simultaneous screenings of 12 classic American movies with introductions from their stars — Jim went on stage to talk about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Keanu for The Matrix, Cameron for There's Something About Mary and on and on from Dustin Hoffman to Mike Meyers. Sounds like a perfect way to take in a Wednesday night at the movies taking a walk down memory lane joined by some of the world's biggest stars.

Stars Team Up With Google To Encourage U.S. Voters

2 October 2008 12:18 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Leonardo DiCaprio, Forest Whitaker and Dustin Hoffman have joined forces with Internet giant Google in a bid to urge U.S. citizens to vote in the upcoming American elections next month.

The actors have shot a pro-vote video, which has been uploaded onto video network site YouTube, to make Americans aware of the dangers of not using their vote.

In the video, entitled 5 Friends, DiCaprio tells viewers, "If you're not going to vote I don't even know what to say to you anymore. You know you have to vote."

The footage, which was filmed at the Titanic star's Los Angeles home, also features U.S. funnywoman Sarah Silverman, who tried to lighten the mood of the message, telling citizens to forward the video to their pals, and urging them to spread the "must-vote" message until it's "rampant like herpes but for a positive".

Oscar Update: 'Reader' Release Date and Hoffman's Pitch

28 September 2008 8:13 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Well, the worry that the Weinstein Co. may end up pushing The Reader into 2009 is no more as the following joint statement was released by Harvey Weinstein and producer Scott Rudin: We are issuing this statement together to emphasize the fact that we are in complete agreement on the date we have chosen to release .The Reader.. Working together, we developed a plan to extend the post-production schedule in order to give Stephen Daldry the additional time he needs to successfully complete the film in time to release it on December 12, 2008. This means Kate Winslet will now be competing against herself, at least as of right now. Winslet stars in The Reader as well as Revolutionary Road and both are expected to earn the actress some attention, which was one of the reasons the release date was in question. Strangely enough Winslet replaced the originally cast Nicole Kidman in

Morton Joins Cruise For Holmes' Broadway Debut

19 September 2008 12:02 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Andrew Morton, the author of Tom Cruise's controversial biography, joined the movie star and other theatre fans for Katie Holmes' Broadway debut in All My Sons on Thursday night.

Morton, whose book Tom Cruise: An Unauthorised Biography was savaged by the actor and his aides, sat several rows behind the Mission: Impossible star.

And he was impressed by Holmes' performance in the Arthur Miller play.

He tells In Touch Weekly magazine, "She handled the stage and moved very well. She was a little stiff at times, but she was up against some big Broadway stars."

But Morton, who also penned a controversial Princess Diana biography, was most taken by the reaction to Holmes as she left the theatre with her husband after her big stage debut.

He adds, "This reminds me of the Diana days or even the Beckhams."

Meanwhile, Cruise wasn't the only big movie star in the house for Holmes' Broadway debut, opposite John Lithgow, Patrick Wilson and Diane Wiest - the actor's Rain Man co-star Dustin Hoffman was also in the audience at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

Stand Up For Katie on Broadway!

19 September 2008 6:00 AM, PDT | From Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news

John Lithgow and Katie Holmes stood outside the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre where they smiled and waved to fans.... and protesters. While anti-Scientology protesters held signs, wore masks and chanted "Free Katie," Tom headed inside to watch his wife in the preview performance for All My Sons. Inside the theater the audience welcomed Cruise who posed for pictures, signed autographs and hugged his old costar Dustin Hoffman who was seated a few rows away. Katie looked beautiful in a dress and a wig on stage but more importantly she apparently held her own with theater veterans like John, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson. The crowd rose to their feet twice and upon her exit from the theater Katie was greeted by congrats from fans. Source, Source, and Splash News Online

"This means so much to her." Looking radiant in a royal blue 1940s -style dress, Holmes took the stage with a cast that includes Broadway vets John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson. News Bite: De Niro and Pacino's Sister Act

17 September 2008 11:58 AM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

Playing cops in the new movie 'Righteous Kill' must have been a real drag for Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. While promoting the film in England, the legendary actors - who have only appeared onscreen together in one other film, the 1995 thriller 'Heat' - brainstormed their next collaboration: a cross-dressing comedy. According to Showbiz Spy, Pacino marveled at his pal's ability to do funny films, and De Niro suggested they try one out. "We could play sisters. That could happen... who knows?" the 'Meet the Parents' star joked.

Perhaps De Niro is on to something. After all, their careers are in a rut, so this would certainly be different. Plus, there's a long history of Oscar love for drag roles. After winning an Academy Award for his searing performance in 'Kramer Vs. Kramer,' Dustin Hoffman took three years off before returning as 'Tootsie,

'Kung Fu Panda' Sequel Bundled with Original

15 September 2008 6:37 PM, PDT | From Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news

Kung Fu Panda was a critical and box office surprise hit when it opened in late June. Now, it is surprising people again as Paramount Home Video has announced that the November 9 DVD release will come bundled with an original tale.  The Sunday release comes two days ahead of the traditional street date for books, CDs and DVDs.

The double pack of Kung Fu Panda and Secrets of the Furious Five will retail for under $25 according to Hollywood Reporter.  The single disc version of the feature film is expected to retail for under $20 in a standard edition.  A Blu-ray version is also anticipated for the same date.

The new story, will explore the established characters’ backgrounds with Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman lending their voices once more as Po and Master Shifu respectively.

The DreamWorks Animation film grossed $213.8 million during the summer, making it a hugely profitable CG-animated hit.

Kung Fu Panda and sequel hitting DVD together!

15 September 2008 9:05 AM, PDT | From The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news

In what The Hollywood Reporter describes as a 'first', to which I have to agree, Paramount Home Entertainment are planning to release the superb Kung Fu Panda on DVD this November, along with a brand new direct-to-dvd companion movie.

Another first is that the film will be released on a Sunday rather than the traditional Tuesday.

The sequel to Kung Fu Panda is called "Secrets of the Furious Five," with the subtitle -  "The 'Kung Fu Panda' story continues." The trade says that the film delves into the backstories of the "Kung Fu Panda" characters, with all-new animation and Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman reprising their respective voice roles as Po and Master Shifu.

The date to put in your diaries is Sunday November 9th. The double-dvd version will be priced at under $25, with the single release of Kung Fu Panda around $20.

'Kung Fu Panda' Sequel Coming Out on DVD

15 September 2008 12:39 AM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

"Kung Fu Panda" DVD edition will be getting a direct-to-video companion film when it is available in stores. Making the announcement are Paramount Home Entertainment which points out further that the film will be entitled "Secrets of the Furious Five" and will be bundled with the original film as part of a "Pandamonium Double Pack".

Though its slug-line "The Kung Fu Panda story continues" may lead to the speculation that it is a sequel, The Hollywood Reporter explains that the storyline will be dealing with the back stories of the characters from the original film. Additionally, it is unclear whether this is the same film as the earlier reported sequel planned by DreamWorks. Still, Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman will lend their voice once again.

The release of "Furious Five" with "Panda" on Sunday, November 9 will mark the first time a new release arrives in stores on Sunday instead of its usual Tuesday outing.

tMF Controversial: Gay roles for "real men" - Who's afraid of playing gay?

3 September 2008 2:01 PM, PDT | From The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news

I don't see what all the fuss is about playing gay characters. When I did Y Tu Mama Tambien, I was asked, 'Don't you worry about what people will say to you in the street?' It seemed like it was such a huge deal. Why would it be an issue for me? I think it is a very American thing. In Mexico, no one has given me any s**t for playing gay roles, for playing a transvestite, whatever. They don't confuse the actor with the role. I mean, they don't think Al Pacino's a cop! That's awesome actor Gael Garcia Bernal (http://themovie-fanatic.com/spotlights/stars/gaelgarciabernal/) talking. Man, he certainly has balls! Many young actors nowadays would rather keep mum or ignore offers to play gay, and why shouldn't they? Aside from the hungry press that can put the bad news within minutes, it could ruin their careers permanently.

Harnett In Hotel Library Romp?

2 September 2008 12:04 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actor Josh Hartnett has reportedly received a verbal warning from security bosses at a London hotel after he was allegedly caught on camera getting intimate with a female friend in a public library.

The Pearl Harbor star, who is preparing to take to the London stage for a theatre adaptation of Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise's movie Rain Man, was allegedly spotted enjoying a frisky romp with an unidentified female at the Soho Hotel - and security guards witnessed Hartnett's every move.

They were forced to warn him not to repeat his steamy actions.

A source tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "Josh and the girl were getting pretty hot and heavy. After stumbling in quite late, they legged it (ran) to the library and immediately closed all the curtains so that no one could see in.

"Unfortunately the hotel has security cameras all over the place - the library included. This means their every spit and cough was recorded, and cringing hotel workers saw all of Josh's X-rated moves.

"No one quite knew where to look and there was a very awkward silence. Josh didn't seem bothered that the library wasn't locked and anyone could just burst in. He just kind of went for it.

"After the event, someone had a quiet word in Josh's ear and he was asked to take his personal business elsewhere in future. Josh took it on the chin (acknowledged it) and didn't kick up a fuss. He's been as good as gold since."

Harnett's stint on the West End stage was due to start on Tuesday, but has been delayed until next week (begs08Sep08) because director Terry Johnson insists the play is not quite ready.
