Love on the rocks? Not any more. Ricci: 'Rituals Prevent Depression'

19 May 2008 6:25 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Christina Ricci is so obsessed with her packing rituals she feels depressed if she doesn't have time to complete them before travelling to a new city.

The Speed Racer star, 28, has admitted to an out-of-control shopping habit, and now says she's gone to extremes, organizing her overflowing closet in order to prevent her from spiralling into a depression.

She says, "I have to make a list of every single item, down to three T-shirts, two sweaters. I look at my list and I check things off. I like order.

"When things are messy or a suitcase is exploding, I feel out of sorts. Coming back to a sloppy room is very depressing to me."

Ricci Joined Rape Prevention Group As Reaction To Film Marketing

19 May 2008 7:00 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Christina Ricci was so disturbed by the marketing campaign for her movie Black Snake Moan, she became an activist for rape victims.

The 28-year-old actress starred in the 2006 drama as Rae, a sexually abused girl desperate for male attention.

But when she saw herself appearing on film posters posing seductively in a navel-bearing top and revealing shorts, the actress was prompted to step up her involvement in the Tori Amos-founded organisation Rainn (The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network).

She says, "I wasn't really comfortable with the way (Black Snake Moan) was being marketed and I was trying to combat how exploitive that campaign was, given what I thought the movie was about when I was making it.

"So I became directly involved with Rainn (on the issue of) rape trauma syndrome, and they were like, 'Wow, you know a lot about this.'

"They asked me to be their national spokesperson, which was amazing. Then they invited me to go to Washington to lobby the Congressional Appropriations Committee for funding for legislation. That was crazy. I didn't know just anyone could go and meet with congress-people. I kept saying, 'You guys know I didn't go to college, right? I'm just an actress."

The actress was filming a scene with the animal for the cult cartoon-turned-action picture when the set started to vibrate.

And the chimp was so terrified it jumped onto Ricci - clinging to her chest in fright.

She says, "The whole set shakes, as it is supposed to for the scene, but the monkey freaks out and grabs my left breast.

"It was hanging off me, so I just leaned over, so its little feet could touch the ground and take some weight off my boob before the monkey ripped the whole thing off."

It's no surprise that Madonna likes to "work so hard there's no time to play" - you don't become the Queen of Pop by vegging out in front of Loose Women, you know. But we can't help wondering whether Her Madgesty has forgotten how to let her hair down. In fact, her recent night on the tiles with Justin Timberlake sounds about as wild as a W.I. meeting. "I had a shot of tequila," Madge admitted. "I may have had a lemon drop, too." Oooh... We can't imagine how she coped with the hangover.

7 May 2008 12:28 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Christina Ricci has "given up" going to music concerts - because she is so short she can never see the stage.

And Ricci insists she just can't enjoy live music any more.

She tells British magazine Closer, "I hardly ever go (to gigs) - I've given up. I'm so small, I can never see the stage. So I figure, what's the point?"

Ricci Wants To Be A Family Film Star

5 May 2008 6:37 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Christina Ricci wants to dedicate her career to making family films - because she's sick of sex, drugs and sleaze on screen.

The star appears in new family-oriented race-car movie Speed Racer, and loved the experience so much she is pushing for more clean-cut roles - and she wants the rest of Hollywood to follow suit.

Ricci, who has played sex-hungry tramps and nymphomaniacs on screen, says, "I wanted to do a kids movie again. I wanted to do a family film. There are so many family movies for kids but they don't actually teach you anything.

"Speed Racer really stresses integrity and morals and a love of family, and that's something I think is really important and a trend we need to bring back."

Ricci was based in the arty Kreuzberg district of Berlin, miles from any pleasurable distractions, and couldn't feed her shopping addiction.

Ricci: 'Stars Exaggerate Pressures Of Hollywood'

27 April 2008 3:56 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Christina Ricci has hit out at Hollywood stars who blame the media for their lack of privacy and personal woes.

The actress, 28, has grown tired of the complaints of her fellow stars - claiming their predecessors were forced to work in much more difficult conditions.

Ricci says, "It used to be stricter. You couldn't go places, you had to get approval from people, they had a say in who you dated, and you were basically their property and a public figure, and had no claims or rights to a private life. So, in a lot of ways, it's better."

Ricci: 'Stripping Stars Set A Bad Example'

22 April 2008 6:30 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Christina Ricci has taken aim at Lindsay Lohan for playing a stripper on screen and setting a poor example to young girls.

Ricci claims stars like Lohan, who peeled off in 2007 movie I Know Who Killed Me, have created a culture of women who find flattery in misogyny.

She says, "It used to be something that we (women) were sort of ashamed of. You didn't want to admit to people that you were a stripper.

"But now, the hottest thing to say is, 'I can work a pole!' Who gives a f**k? But it's a huge weird thing.

"I mean, you see actresses, and their passion project is to play a stripper. It's just stupid."

Ricci Upset By Black Snake Moan Marketing

19 April 2008 7:25 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Christina Ricci is still bitter about the way her 2007 film Black Snake Moan was marketed - because she felt movie posters and trailers exploited women.

The actress played a troubled wildgirl who is taken in by Samuel L. Jackson's eccentric bluesman character and chained to his radiator in an attempt to rid her of her demons.

She admits she loved making the film and had high hopes for it until she saw the marketing campaign, which included a poster featuring a scantily-clad Ricci at the end of a chain held by Jackson's character, Lazarus.

She fumes, "The way that movie was marketed was probably one of the most disappointing and upsetting things that's ever happened to me in my career.

"I have no interest in exploiting women any further than they've already been exploited.

"The whole reason I made that movie was to say, 'Oh yeah, that girl you called a slut probably went through this, so you might not want to use her and throw her away or judge her.

"All they (marketing bosses) cared about was college-age boys going to see it."

Ricci Slams Drunk Stars

4 April 2008 12:43 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Christina Ricci has criticised young stars who frequent the Hollywood party scene - insisting they all know their wild partying will be documented by the press.

The Sleepy Hollow beauty isn't a fan of young actresses who blame their documented intoxicated states on the pressures of fame - as she has never been offered drugs at A-List parties.

But the 28-year-old admits the industry has changed since she started out as a child star - because stars weren't hounded by the media like they are today.

She tells Britain's Elle magazine, "Why would you'd get drunk and fall over in front of photographers I don't really know.

"People used to warn me, saying, 'Be Careful! You're an actress so there's temptation all around!' Well, no one has ever offered me drugs.

"I liked drinking but I couldn't handle it, so I stopped. Luckily for me, there wasn't that much media then. Now if you go out you're going to end up in the paper."

"The Ice Storm," "Mélo"

1 April 2008 6:53 AM, PDT | From ifc.com | See recent IFC news

By Michael Atkinson

On its surface, Ang Lee's career has been distinguished by a seemingly aimless ricochet between nations and milieus (Taiwan, New York, Wyoming, Devon, Shanghai, Connecticut, etc.), and between adapted disparate source materials (Jane Austen, Rick Moody, Annie Proulx, Wang Du Lu, Stan Lee) . and from both perspectives, you can find something to carp about. Indeed, Lee is rarely considered in serious debates about contemporary heavyweights, and his cultural rootlessness (read: opportunism) and dependence on literature may well be the reasons. We commonly like our auteurs to come packaged as purebred cultural expressors, and as artists largely independent of old narrative voices. But Lee's case can also demonstrate, movie by movie, the irrelevance of location, and the depth-finding force of deft adaptation.

"The Ice Storm" (1997), newly Criterionized, makes the point with a cudgel: Lee may have been Taiwanese, but his first all-American movie couldn't have been more American.
