Dennis Quaid

6 October 2008 9:01 PM, PDT | From avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news

There are many reasons Dennis Quaid has been such a durable movie star—his gruff Texan masculinity, his athleticism, his musicianship—but most of all it's that famous grin, a sly and disarming gesture from an actor who usually plays it straight. After his older brother Randy started to make a career for himself in Hollywood, Quaid dropped out of college and pursued acting, eventually landing a key role in the 1979 sleeper hit Breaking Away. From there, he slowly moved up the marquee in the '80s, joining an impressive ensemble as a cocky astronaut in 1983's The Right Stuff, then landing lead roles in such hits as Enemy Mine, Innerspace, and The Big Easy. As Jerry Lee Lewis in 1989's Great Balls Of Fire!, Quaid was at the center of a critical and commercial fiasco, but few could deny his fevered performance or his musical chops, which lead to him fronting.

Opening This Week: A Wong Kar-wai redux, more mumblecore and shaky-cam horror

6 October 2008 7:06 AM, PDT | From ifc.com | See recent IFC news

By Neil Pedley

With the fall season's heavy hitters already starting to make an appearance, this week's feast of indie offers some calm before the big studio storm. Enjoy it while it lasts.

"Ashes of Time Redux"

Celebrated Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar-wai gathered together lost and damaged footage to painstakingly rework his only martial arts epic, first released in 1994, into a fresh, definitive edition (complete with an all new score from Yo-Yo Ma). With a blindingly colorful palette, Wong paints a looping, stylized portrait of an embittered agent Ouyang Feng (the late Leslie Cheung) who channels the unbearable pain of a broken heart into commissioning bounty hunters to commit acts of vengeance. Tony Leung Ka Fai, Maggie Cheung, Carina Lau and Jacky Cheung round out the still-impressive cast.

Opens in New York and Los Angeles.

Quaid Denies Ryan Is Moving For Full Custody Of Son

29 September 2008 9:09 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Hollywood actor Dennis Quaid has dismissed rumours ex-wife Meg Ryan is filing for full custody of their teenage son Jack after tabloid reports surfaced questioning his sobriety.

The Vantage Point star split from Ryan in 2000 and their divorce was finalised in 2001.

The couple, who share custody of 16-year-old Jack, has left Hollywood guessing over the details behind their split for the last eight years, but Ryan finally broke her silence last week, when she claimed Quaid had cheated on her.

The revelation prompted sources close to the former couple to leak further information about their divorce, with one insider claiming that their joint custody agreement included a stipulation about Quaid's sobriety, reports the New York Daily News.

The source says, "Meg came to believe he was drinking again and wanted full physical custody of Jack."

But Quaid has refuted the reports, insisting nothing has changed in their care of their son since the settlement was made.

He says, "Meg and I have always had joint custody of Jack without any stipulations whatsoever."

Quaid is now married to Kimberly Buffington, and the couple welcomed twins last year.

A representative for Ryan could not be reached for comment as WENN went to press.

Quaid Launches Scathing Attack On Ex-wife Ryan

29 September 2008 5:15 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Dennis Quaid has slammed his ex-wife Meg Ryan for revealing all about their 2000 marriage break-up, insisting her allegations of his infidelity will only cause their son Jack more "pain" and "turmoil".

Ryan and Quaid have refused to divulge the details of their split for the past eight years, but the actress once dubbed 'America's sweetheart' recently opened up about the dark days that followed her divorce.

She told America's InStyle magazine, "Dennis was not faithful to me for a very long time, and that was very painful. I found out more about that after I was divorced."

But Quaid is furious about her candid comments, and has chastised Ryan for dragging up the past - saying she should think twice about what she airs to the press if she wants to protect their 16-year-old son's feelings.

And he has hinted that Ryan's accusations of infidelity are not completely accurate - although he refuses to be drawn on more details.

He tells the New York Daily News, "It was eight years ago, and I find it unbelievable that Meg continues publicly to rehash and rewrite the story of our relationship.

"Also, I find it regrettable that our son, Jack, has to be reminded in a public way of the turmoil and pain that every child feels in a divorce."

The Vantage Point star is now married to Kimberly Buffington, and the couple welcomed twins last year.

He adds, "I, myself, moved on years ago and am fortunate to have a happy, beautiful family."

Meg Ryan shares such a close bond with her adopted daughter Daisy, she insists it doesn't matter that she was not her birth mother.

Ryan adopted Chinese Daisy in 2006, when she was 14 months old.

And she is convinced they were destined to be together.

The actress - who has a 16 year old son, Jack, with ex-husband Dennis Quaid - tells InStyle magazine, "Daisy is brilliant. As mysterious and magical as it is to have a baby you have birth to, I have the exact same thing with Daisy. I feel like we made some agreement, long ago, and far away, to meet in the way we did."

Arias on Apocalypse Movie Legion

24 September 2008 12:37 AM, PDT | From DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news

One can’t help but wonder about the myriad of problems Screen Gems has with the upcoming Dennis Quaid apocalypse movie Legion. The other day it was announced the film wouldn’t see the light of projectors until January 22nd, 2010, even though it's been done for months. Co-star Yancey Arias doesn’t feel there’s anything wrong with it at all, however.

"It looks like Legion is going to be really good," Arias told Sci-Fi Wire recently. ”"I play a Los Angeles police officer who witnesses archangel Michael arriving to the planet and wreaking havoc. Yeah, L.A. gets destroyed again, and you might say I have a short-lived situation."

Legion, for those of you who have forgotten, tells the story of a group of people trapped in a diner in the Southwest when the apocalypse hits. Suddenly they’re tasked with saving the world when they realize the waitress is pregnant with the messiah.

Ryan: 'Quaid Was Not Faithful'

23 September 2008 6:33 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Meg Ryan has opened up about her 2000 marriage break-up in a candid new magazine article, revealing her ex-husband Dennis Quaid's infidelities became apparent after they divorced.

Private Ryan and Quaid have refused to divulge the details of their split, which shocked Hollywood eight years ago, but now the actress once dubbed 'America's sweetheart' is talking to InStyle magazine about the dark days that followed her divorce.

She tells the upcoming October issue of the publication, "Dennis was not faithful to me for a very long time, and that was very painful. I found out more about that after I was divorced."

The When Harry Met Sally star was blamed for the break-up of the marriage - after she appeared to be romancing Russell Crowe, but she insists the tabloid scandal wasn't what it appeared to be - and her former beau, Crowe, took too much blame.

She adds, .I think he took a big hit, but Russell didn.t break up the marriage. He was definitely there at the end, but it wasn.t his fault. I was a mess. I hurt him too at the end. I couldn.t be in another long relationship, it wasn.t the time for that. So I got out."

Eight years later, she's upbeat about the hit she took as her marriage fell apart: .My time as a scarlet woman was really interesting. As painful as it was, it was also incredibly liberating. I didn.t have to care about what people thought..

Dennis Quaid Compares Gen. Hawk to Patton, Hugh Hefner

23 September 2008 11:33 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

The Big Picture had the chance to talk to Dennis Quaid this morning about his new film The Express, in which he plays legendary Syracuse University coach Ben Schwartzwalder opposite Rob Brown in the role of Ernie Davis, the first African-American Heisman trophy winner.

Saying the film did not want to be politically correct, Quaid told us that he tried to play Schwartzwalder "honestly and not idealistically."

So how does the firm Schwartzwalder compare to General Hawk, his character in next summer's G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.

"General Hawk is a little bit more lighthearted," he laughs. "General Hawk is kind of a combination of Patton and...Hugh Hefner."

"Yeah, supermodels are his aides-de-camp," jokes Quaid.

But he was tightlipped on any specific plot details. "That was a lot of fun to do, [but] all I can tell you is knowing is half the battle."

In a way, I'm happy

Ryan: 'Hollywood Is Done With Me'

14 September 2008 4:12 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Meg Ryan is convinced her Hollywood career is nearly over - as film options are limited for women over 40.

The Sleepless in Seattle star had long been considered America's sweetheart, but she decided to take a break from the limelight following her 2001 divorce from Dennis Quaid.

And Ryan admits that at 46, she will never be able to recapture her previous fame - because there are less starring roles available to women over a certain age.

She says, "I think when Hollywood is done with me, I will probably be done with it. I'm not interested in playing those stock characters any more and I don't feel sad that I don't get those kind of offers."
