Legendary entertainer Jerry Reed has died of complications from emphysema. He was 71.
Reed began his career as a guitarist, before launching into songwriting, singing and later rising to fame as an actor with 1977 film Smokey and the Bandit, co-starring Burt Reynolds.
He later starred alongside funnyman Adam Sandler in 1998 comedy The Waterboy.
Reed also enjoyed a string of music hits during the 1970s and 1980s, including the 1971 Grammy Award-winning track When You're Hot, You're Hot - the second of three Grammys for the star.
Reed signed his first recording contract at 17 with Capitol Records, after dropping out of high school to tour with Ernest Tubb and Faron Young.
His perseverance paid off when rock legend Elvis Presley recorded two of his songs, U.S. Male and Guitar Man, in 1968.
Johnny Cash later took note of his talents, recording his hit A Thing Called Love in 1972.
The legend also wrote songs for Brenda Lee, Tom Jones, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole and the Oak Ridge Boys.
Reed had quadruple bypass surgery in June 1999.
He is survived by wife Priscilla Mitchell and their two daughters.

The new Don Cheadle movie Traitor officially opened yesterday. You can check out our review here. It was almost ten years ago that I watched the special features on the Out of Sight DVD and a quote has stuck with me ever since. George Clooney, who for the first time was really playing the role of a Hollywood ringleader, said in a making-of featurette, "If you can get Don Cheadle in your movie, get Don Cheadle in your movie." And that about says it all.
Although I've always had great admiration for Cheadle in movies, he's equally good on TV talk shows. Who could forget his guest-hosting gigs on The Late Late Show before they settled on Craig Ferguson as the permanet host, or singing "Endless Love" with Adam Sandler on Letterman last year? This one goes the extra mile, though. Spoofing his own new movie, Cheadle recreates a prisoner

Perhaps only Anna Faris could make a female-empowerment comedy produced by Adam Sandler tolerable.
So haphazardly written and directed that it barely qualifies as a movie, "The House Bunny" is watchable solely for the comic stylings of the blond veteran of the "Scary Movie" series.
Faris approaches her role as an erstwhile Playmate who makes over a bunch of nerdy sorority girls with wholly unwarranted enthusiasm and an altogether winning lack of guile.
It probably doesn't hurt that she spends most of

I really couldn't have been more satisfied with the casting on Inglorious Bastards until now. Quentin Tarantino has passed on Adam Sandler and picked up Mike Myers instead for the role of British General Ed Fenech, a military mastermind who takes part in hatching a plot to wipe out Nazi leaders. The Tarantino Archives, who originally reported the news, claims that it is a small role, nothing too big. Those who have read the script confirm that there are numerous cameos and minor characters and apparently Myers is one of them. When I wrote this article on the downfall of Mike Myers back in June, I was being completely serious - his days as a comedian are long gone and he's got nothing left. I really hope this isn't a role that I'm going to hate just because he makes an appearance. This really puts a damper on my Inglorious Bastards

Unfortunately, Adam Sandler couldn't appear in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards, however another comedic actor who goes by the name of Mike Myers can! From The Quentin Tarantino Archives: Breaking news out of Tarantino land, ladies and gentlemen. Some of you sceptics out there will fume at this news, but I’m getting confirmation that Mike Myers will have a Small role in Inglorious Bastards. Myers is the star of Wayne’s World and Austin Powers, and also the recent flop Love Guru. No word yet on what…

Last week it was confirmed that Brad Pitt would lead Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards, making things a bit more interesting. However, the film could have been even more interesting if Adam Sandler wasn't busy making more crappy comedies and had a role in the film. Sander confirmed to Rte.ie that the rumours are true and he was in fact approached by Quentin, has read the script, but had to decline the offer due to conflicting schedules. “Yeah it’s true. It is, and I read…

Adam Sandler has blamed the media for influencing his box office ratings - because they never write good things about him.
The funnyman ignores critics who deliberately write bad reviews of his films but he is angry when their opinions influence the public.
He says, "You know what, I don't even believe half the things they say anymore - they've been writing bad stuff about me for a long time.
"I remember one time this lady came up to me and said 'I'm not gonna see your movie but my friend said it was good'.
"And I was like 'Ok why can't you see it again?' and she said, 'Oh I read that it wasn't very good' and I said, 'What about your friend' and she was like, 'Yeah she's not that smart'."

Adam Sandler and Walt Disney - that just doesn't sound right. I mean, what happened to that guy? He used to be funny and starred in several decent projects over the past years (including the brilliant "Punch-Drunk Love"), but here lately, he's not really doing anything worth mentioning. Just look at the disappointments that were "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" and "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry."
Sandler's next family comedy is Adam Shankman's "Bedtime Stories," in which he plays a man whose life takes a drastic turn when the bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to become reality. Keri Russell, Guy Perce, Courteney Cox and Teresa Palmer co-star. ComingSoon recently received a first official still from the film, which you can check out above. For the full version, click here.
"Bedtime Stories" comes to theaters Dec. 25, 2008. Shankman recently directed "Hairspray."

I have the script for Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards (like everyone else at this point), but I have not had a chance to read it, which may be the reason I continue to be baffled by the names being added to the cast. Of course the Eli Roth casting is a definite head scratcher seeing how I look at that bit of casting as more of a "toss your friend a bone" kind of deal, something I understand with Michael Madsen since Madsen is a bad ass, but Eli Roth? B.J. Novak I know nothing about so I have no comments and the Brad Pitt casting seems just fine. Pitt is an underated actor that never gets proper credit for actually being a great actor due to the fact he was always pegged as the pretty face. However, after films such as 12 Monkey, Seven, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

Although Adam Sandler is one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, the guy really has only made four classic films (I'lll let you folks guess what they are). Many moons have passed since I've been excited for a Sandler film and it looks as though many more shall pass indeed. The first photo from his latest film entitled Bedtime Stories has been released online and it's literally the dude standing with an umbrella being drenched by....candy? Disney has revealed the first photo of Adam Sandler in their upcoming holiday comedy Bedtime Stories. In it, Sandler stats as a hotel handyman whose life changes when the lavish bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to magically come true. In addition to Sandler, Guy Pearce, Keri Russell, Courteney Cox, and Dana Goodman all star as well. The film hits theaters on Christmas Day, making it Disney's big holiday comedy. The concept sounds great, I just hope the execution is great as well. Directing is Adam Shankman, of Hairspray last year, and although his previous filmography is quite unimpressive (so much so that I'm not even going to mention it), I'm hoping the script for this was good enough to forget about them and move on. Take a look at the first look photo below and let us know what you think! An adventure comedy starring Adam Sandler

Comedy actor Adam Sandler was so impressed with a night out at an Irish pub, he wrote a note of thanks to the staff.
The Hollywood star was in Dublin last week (begs28Jul08) for the premiere of his new comedy You Don't Mess With The Zohan.
He popped into the Blarney Inn with friends for a meal and drinks - and left a handwritten letter of good wishes for the owner and staff.
The note, which included a drawing of a smiley face, read: "To Christian and staff, Thanks for the Irish stew and the Irish love. Happy Christmas even though it's July. Adam Sandler."
A source at the bar says, "Adam really enjoyed his evening, soaking up the traditional Irish atmosphere."

“Hairspray” director Adam Shankman will direct the big-screen version of John Grisham’s best-seller “Playing for Pizza,” according to Variety.
The book centers on an experienced NFL quarterback who flees to Italy after messing up his chance to take his team to the Super Bowl. There, he ends up working with a semiprofessional team struggling to win the Italian National Football League.
"We want to make this grittier than the book, a cross between 'North Dallas Forty' and 'Jerry Maguire,'” Shankman told Variety.
Shankman is directing a script by J. Mills Goodloe, who recently collaborated on the screenplay for Sunu Gonera’s “Pride.”
Shankman’s directing credits also include “Bringing Down the House” and “The Pacifier.” He also recently completed “Bedtime Stories,” a family comedy starring Adam Sandler and Courteney Cox.
