Finally: First Full Star Trek Trailer In November

10 October 2008 8:48 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

TrekMovie got the scoop that we will finally be seeing a full trailer for the new Star Trek movie next month. This will not be a teaser but will include both exterior and interior shots of the Uss Enterprise as well as scenes of crewmembers speaking dialog from the film.

In addition Paramount will also start lifting the veil of secrecy that’s been surrounding the production.

There’s no word on which November release the trailer will be attached to - the only two Paramount films coming out are Madagascar 2 and The Soloist. Neither of those seem a fit for the premiere of what Paramount hopes to be a big blockbuster for next Summer. TrekMovie points out that other big and semi-big movies opening next month include Quantum of Solace, Disney’s Bolt, Australia and Twilight.

None of those are Paramount films but it wouldn’t be the

Eric Bana set for ‘Convoyeur’ remake

9 October 2008 9:18 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Eric Bana is set to star in and F. Gary Gray is in talks to direct Millenium Films’ remake of French thriller “Le Convoyeur,” according to Variety.

The project is currently titled “Armored,” which may change because of another upcoming film bearing the same title.

The trade says the film follows a man who takes a job for an armored car company and ingratiates himself with his co-workers, who trust him enough to make him part of their heist plans.

Gray would direct a script written by David Ayer (“Training Day”) and Kevin Walker. The film is set for principal photography next spring.

Bana was last seen in “The Other Boleyn Girl.” His upcoming projects include Robert Schwentke’s “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and J.J. Abrams’ anticipated “Star Trek” reboot.

Gray last directed “Be Cool.” His helming credits also include “A Man Apart” and “The Italian Job.”

Pegging Pegg

6 October 2008 2:38 PM, PDT | From Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news

Simon Pegg, star and co-writer of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, describes the current "geek" film climate quite eloquently to Film School Rejects:

"You realize that now the film industry is sort of populated by film fans, by people that appreciate the medium. I think J.J. Abrams is a fan. If you look at the directors now, the current generation, you look at people like Tarantino, Sam Raimi, Edgar (Wright), you know, they’re all film geeks who are now making films. They were all people who grew up with cinema through the video boom and are now making films themselves."

Chalk it up to a class act like Pegg to not lump himself in that category, though he certainly has earned his place. From his cult classic, cult culture-influenced television series Spaced to his upcoming space-traveling adventure in Star Trek XI, Simon Pegg has precariously superglued his

Venturing into the Star Trek Universe with Writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman

3 October 2008 8:29 PM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Looking ahead to next summer, there is an exciting line-up of geek-driven films, from Wolverine to Transformers to Terminator to Harry Potter to Star Trek. While I've been keeping my eye on all of them, Star Trek is one that I'm particularly interested in seeing. As a big fan of "The Next Generation" series and J.J. Abrams (separately), I've been tremendously excited to see what Abrams has done with such a beloved franchise. Although there are still quite a few more months left, and we still haven't even seen a real trailer, I'm still excited to bring you any news we can. Wired recently caught up with writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and tackled some tough questions surrounding the movie. Orci and Kurtzman have become quickly become two of the next biggest writers in Hollywood. After penning the screenplay for Michael Bay's Transformers last year and Mission: Impossible III

Eiff 08: Review of Let The Right One In or why the Americans should just leave this film alone

Year: 2008

Director: Tomas Alfredson

Writer: John Ajvide Lindqvist

Review by: agentorange

Rating: 8.5 out of 10

I'm still kicking around the Edmonton International Film festival but, since I've got about three hours to kill before Midnight Meat Train screens, I thought I'd take some time out from schmoozing (and eating way too many of those leathery theater hot dogs *hacks*) to talk about Tomas Alfredson's brilliant Let the Right One In as well as do a little moaning about the prospects of this much ballyhooed remake.

Our Cali correspondent Cyberhal pretty much summed up how I feel about the film in his own review of Ltroi from the La Film Festival so I'll do my best to leave out descriptions of magical snowfalls and the power of understated acting and just talk about my gut feelings. Basically, my gut's telling me that Let the

'Fringe' Gets Full Season From Fox

1 October 2008 11:34 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

Attracting those special demographics that advertisers love seems to go a long way for Fox. The network has ordered a full season of "Fringe," its lead-out show from "House" on Tuesday nights, making it just the second new show this season behind The CW's "90210" to get such an honor so far. "We're having a blast working on this show with this great team of producers," Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly told TV Week. "The series has really taken off creatively, and it's exciting to see that the audience is responding. We believe this is the first full season of many years to come." "Fringe" is the latest project from J.J. Abrams, and brought in Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman -- the writers of the upcoming "Star Trek" movie -- to get the show off the ground. While the ...

Younger Adults Seem To Love 'Fringe'

1 October 2008 3:08 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

It might lose a decent part of the audience tuning in for "House," but adults 18 to 49 have made it clear: they're interested in seeing more "Fringe." The J.J. Abrams Fox series earned a 6.2 rating/9 share Tuesday according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research. It finished third for the 9 p.m. timeslot behind "Dancing with the Stars" on ABC and "The Mentalist" on CBS, but it easily beat "The Biggest Loser" on NBC as well as "Privileged" on The CW in overall viewers, but finishing second only to "House" in grabbing the biggest audience hailing from advertisers' darling demographic. Numbers for "Fringe" were up 3 percent from last week, but still lost about 20.5 percent of "House's" audience, which remains one of Fox's top-rated scripted shows. The rating ...

'Fringe' Falls Back To Normal

24 September 2008 7:00 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

It only took a week for "Fringe" to fall back to its pre-"House" lead-in days. The J.J. Abrams series earned a 6.0 rating/9 share, according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research, beating only "The Biggest Loser" on NBC and "Privileged" on The CW. "Fringe" was knocked around quite a bit by the series premiere of "The Mentalist" on CBS, which started out with a 9.9/15, according to Zap2it, thanks to a strong lead-in from the season premiere of "NCIS." However, "The Mentalist" lost about 11.6 percent of its lead-in audience. "Fringe" can't snicker too much because nearly 19 percent of the "House" audience abandoned Fox by the time "Fringe" premiered. The ratings for "Fringe" is off nearly 27 percent from its series high last week, but is slightly higher ...

Review: 'Heroes' Season 3 Premiere

23 September 2008 7:38 AM, PDT | From Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news

Those of you who left Heroes after the debauchery that was season two may want to make a return to the show for this season, because if the first two episodes were any indicator, this season is going to be exactly what comic book and TV fans alike have been waiting for.

Where we left off

The virus from the second season was contained by the heroes. Adam (the immortal man) was taken away by Hiro, while Nathan, Peter, and Matt decided that it’s time to tell the world exactly who they are. Right before Nathan’s big “outing”, he was shot by a mysterious man and presumed dead. Sylar escaped the clutches of Elle and the company, only to realize that his powers were coming back. Nikki went on a quest to save her cousin Monica from evil drug dealers when she was trapped in a building when it exploded.

'Pushing Daisies' Creator Wants A New Star Trek on TV

21 September 2008 2:33 PM, PDT | From Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news

Any fan of the ABC series Pushing Daisies is probably aware that creator Bryan Fuller was also the creative mind behind both critically acclaimed, yet short-lived series Wonderfalls and Dead Like Me, but it is not as well known that Fuller is also a full-on Star Trek fan, and in fact has even written 21 episodes for the lore: 2 for Deep Space Nine and 19 for Voyager. Fuller recently sounded off on J.J. Abrams’ new Trek film and his interest on taking the helm for a modern interpretation of the 1960’s hit.

I would love to do another Star Trek series, one where you could go back to the spirit and color of the original Star Trek, because somehow, it got cold over the years. I love Next Generation, but it’s a little cooler and calmer than the ones from the ‘60s, which were so dynamic and passionate. Star Trek has to recreate itself.

No One Ever Offered Shatner A 'Star Trek XI' Role

20 September 2008 2:28 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

In a story that doesn't seem to ever want to die, William Shatner responded to a report from last week from "Star Trek XI" director J.J. Abrams explaining why the Capt. Kirk actor was out of the film. Shatner, who is about to complete his Emmy-winning final season on the ABC series "Boston Legal," said that while he is a big fan of Abrams, the truth was, no one ever offered him any kind of role in the film. "Nobody ever came to me and said we have a cameo," Shatner said in a video response posted on his official Web site. "Maybe you wrote it, but it never presented itself. But the truth is, I wouldn't want to have done a cameo." Shatner made it clear last year when the rumor mill was turning hard just before filming started on the new Star Trek movie that while he would

Shatner: No Cameo Offer In New Star Trek Movie

19 September 2008 4:45 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Is it me or does it increasingly seem that William Shatner is to the forthcoming Star Trek “requel” (reboot and prequel) what Mark Millar is to the Superman reboot movie: Constantly talking smack just to get attention/press (i.e. publicity stunt)?

The latest chapter in “Shatner-Gate” comes from this video - part of a new series of video blogs called The Shatner Project:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzOs4WEutQ8

Everyone’s favorite ham (chatting along with his daughter Liz) rebukes claims made by director J.J. Abrams that they tried to work out a cameo for him, but he balked at the offer demanding more screen-time:

“JJ, nobody every came to me and said ‘we have a cameo.’ Maybe you wrote it, but it never presented itself to me. But the truth is I wouldn’t have wanted to do a cameo, because that you would have clipped that out.

Shatner's video response to Abrams' Star Trek comments

19 September 2008 9:57 AM, PDT | From The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news

The legend that is William Shatner, has responded to STAR TREK director J.J. Abrams following his comments that he turned down a cameo in the film. It seems that Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk in the series and movies that followed for many years wasn't even approached to do a cameo for the 2009 released movie.

In the following You Tube video, Shatner says that he would love to do a cameo for the film, and would be willing to do that in the follow-up, should there be one. The interview is conducted by Shatner's own daughter Liz. Take a look.

After J.J. Abrams' comments about why William Shatner was not to appear in his upcoming STAR TREK movie, Bill has taken it upon himself to clarify the whole issue for us. William Shatner has responded to J.J. Abrams's comments regarding his axed cameo in the upcoming Star Trek film. Abrams recently admitted that he had devised a way to bring Shatner back to the franchise as Captain James T. Kirk, but ditched the flashback scene because "it didn't quite feel right". Shatner has since posted a video message to Abrams on YouTube, claiming that he hadn't been informed about the cameo role. "Nobody (more)

A little over a week ago J.J. Abrams was quoted saying there actually was a Captain Kirk scene written into the new Star Trek flick but it got nixed for logical reasons. Well, William Shatner has received word of the Abrams comment and has responded with a suggestion... Use the hovering thing and put the molecules together and out comes Captatin Kirk or something to that effect. Then he starts talking about dinosaur DNA, it's fantastic... Give it a watch.

Shatner: "Nobody Offered Me a Part" in 'Star Trek'

18 September 2008 9:47 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

For J.J. Abrams, The Shat is not where it's at. As you've probably heard, the original James T. Kirk will not be in the new Star Trek movie, which will boldly go next May. Information has been sketchy as to why William Shatner won't make a return voyage, but last week Abrams tried to clear it up once and for all.

Saying that he "tried desperately" to get Shatner in the movie, Abrams told AMC, "It was very tricky. We actually had written a scene with him in it that was a flashback kind of thing, but the truth is, it didn't quite feel right. The bigger thing was that he was very vocal that he didn't want to do a cameo."

Abrams also expressed some concern over how to handle Kirk's appearance, since the character died onscreen in Generations a bunch of years ago.

Now Shatner's having his say,
