Can anyone catch up to this cool cat? With Shia Labeouf's Eagle Eye taking the top spot at the box-office this weekend it makes four-in-a-row for the actor (not counting the animated Surf's Up) and it made me wonder if the 22-year-old is our next big time actor or if it's just a case of him starring in the right film at the right time that has made his films so popular leaving the title of "The Next Big Thing" up for grabs. Let's face it, Transformers and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull were going to make big bucks no matter what, Shia had very little, if anything, to do with their success. One could make the argument that Disturbia opened during a very weak time in 2007 and that accounts for its three week box-office domination with rather modest numbers, winning that third weekend with barely over $9 million.

The Middleground. The top 30 is the middleground, where you get to find out who are making headways and who are not. We maintain a rather skeptical view of some of the actors' performances (i.e. we're not yet impressed totally!). That's probably the reason why you might notice the low ranking for some of the more popular names, which you thought should have been way up there. Moving down the rankings were Ben Foster, Kevin Zegers, Michael Angarano, Chris Evans and Eddie Redmayne. New on the list are Keiran Culkin and Nicolas Cazale and completing the top 30 are Ben Barnes, Lou Taylor Pucci and Sam Riley. International Appeal. I should have mentioned that during the first time we launched our top 50 list last April, many took note of its 'international flavor' and that we feature French, German and even Italian actors. The trend continues as we get to discover more young talents.

Jessica Biel in Easy Virtue The first trailer and a handful of pics have just arrived from Easy Virtue, a film that debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival starring Jessica Biel, Colin Firth, Kristin Scott Thomas and Ben Barnes. Stephan Elliott, who directed the Oscar winning Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, helmed the pic which is an adaptation of the Noel Coward play. In the film Biel plays an American divorcee, Larita Huntington, who travels to the South of France and marries young wealthy Englishman John Whittaker (Barnes) on the spur of the moment. The couple return to England to face his unapproving family, including his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Whittaker (Firth and Scott Thomas). Coming out of Tiff the film received moderate reviews but didn't obtain any kind of distribution. Eugene Novikov at Cinematical called it "a droll and witty delight, a superb showcase for its cast,

Another romantic comedy period piece, but this one stars Jessica Biel, Ben Barnes, Colin Firth, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Kimberley Nixon. Adapted from a play, Easy Virtue is about an cheerful American girl who marries a young Englishman on the spur of the moment in France and heads home to meet his in-laws. The film just premiered at the Toronto Film Festival to rather mild reviews and minimal buzz, but that doesn't really say much about this. As much as I hate period pieces, it actually looks kind of fun, if I can say that without being attacked. There's even a chorus redo of Tom Jones' classic "Sex Bomb" song. I don't think too many will get a kick out of this, but there are a few of you who will - so enjoy! The Toronto Film Festival soldiered on yesterday, and Matt Damon's OneXOne Gala was just one of the many events. Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale looked gorgeous in white at the premiere of Easy Virtue and a press conference for Nothing but the Truth, respectively. Mark Ruffalo looked like he was having a ball with costars Rachel Weisz and Adrien Brody at an afterparty for The Brothers Bloom. Even Paris and Benji made the trip up to Canada in the name of partying, hitting the This Monday at Ultra party with Paris's canned prosecco in hand, naturally. There are a lot more photos including Len Wiseman, Scott Speedman, and Colin Firth so just read more. Images include: Colin Firth, Jessica Biel, Ben Barnes, Paris Hilton, Benji Madden, Kate Beckinsale, Vera Farmiga, Len Wiseman, Adrien Brody, Alan Alda, Rachel Weisz, Mark Ruffalo, Sunrise Coigney, Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, Scott Speedman Source

The folks over at "CinEmpire" recently posted some new pics from the little talked about period piece Easy Virtue. Based on the Noel Coward play of the same name, in it, Jessica Biel stars as an American divorcee who marries a young Englishman (Ben Barnes) as a spur of the moment thing but realizes the hilarious consequences of her actions when she goes to meet her in-laws. It opens November 7th in the UK but no stateside release is set as yet.

While it stars some great names in the world of film, we haven't heard too much about Easy Virtue. But now, as it gears up for that spanky Canadian festival known as Tiff, CinEmpire has published a whole slew of pictures -- a retro Jessica Biel, Colin Firth, Ben Barnes, Kristin Scott Thomas, and more.
The film focuses on an American divorcee (Biel) who has to meet the parents (but hopefully without the cat milking). But unlike Stiller's version, she's already tied the knot with a sexy young Englishman (Barnes), so Mom (Scott Thomas) and Dad (Firth) can't stop the wedding. But I'm sure there'll be lots of dirty looks, and more than one smirk, like the one above.
Virtue is yet another romcom, but at least it heads back in time a little, and originally comes from a Noel Coward play that Alfred Hitchcock

They have the acting chops – that's the No 1 thing – and then they have physical appeal. Handsome young men who can act? Wow, what a concept! says Steven Gaydos, executive editor of Variety.... - - - - - - That's part of Alice Jones' report called The Britpack (http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/film-and-tv/features/the-britpack--our-new-generation-of-movie-stars-takes-tinseltown-841199.html), where she describes the new wave of British actors making a huge impact in Hollywood. While she mentions Ben Barnes and Jim Sturgess among those making waves in Tinseltown right now, she apparently fails to mention one particular name - Robert Pattinson. The Twilight lead star seems to have the most ardent fan following and while I might be construed as being biased - and why not? He's the one winning our poll with thousands of votes! - there is certainly lots of evidence all over the web that he is very popular.

The Toronto International Film Festival keeps bringing the pain with the announcement of 20 new films as part of it's special presentations lineup. I really wish I could hit the fest, but ahh well. The films which really interest me are John Crowley's (Boy A) Is There Anybody There? which is about " an unlikely friendship between a scruffy former magician and a little boy with a morbid streak. Ten year-old Edward has become increasingly obsessed with death and the afterlife since his parents turned their house into a retirement home. Edward's is a lonely and peculiar existence – until he meets Clarence who introduces him to wonders in the here-and-now." Hints of Harold and Maude? Next is Bruno Baretto's Last Stop 174 , about "young Sandro who lives in the slums of Rio de Janeiro where corruption and violence are the norm. Orphaned, alienated and fearing for his life, Sandro falls into a life

The cool peeps at "Shock 'Till You Drop" recently landed themselves the first pic of Dorian Gray, the upcoming Oliver Parker directed feature adaptation of Oscar Wilde's "The Picture of Dorian Gray". In it, Prince Caspian himself Ben Barnes stars as the titular character who enjoys endless lifetimes of debauchery when his aging is somehow transferred to a portrait of himself. What he learns is that immortality and endless bacchanalia really is as great as he thought it...

ShockTillYouDrop got the first look at Ben Barnes and Colin Firth in Dorin Gray. Lensing has begun at London's Ealing Studios on Oliver Parker's Dorian Gray, an adaptation of the Oscar Wilde story that producers are calling a "visceral, dark horror story." Shock received a first look at the production through the photo you see below featuring Ben Barnes, as Gray, and Colin Firth. Gray tells of a corrupt young man who somehow keeps his youthful beauty eternally, but a special painting gradually reveals his inner ugliness to all.

Sometimes being ensconced so deeply in the world of horror, it’s nearly impossible to pay attention to anything else. So when Variety announces that rising star Rebecca Hall has officially joined Oliver Parker’s adaptation of Dorian Gray, I realize have no idea who this girl is.
Apparently Hall’s made a name for herself with roles in Woody Allen’s Vicky Christina Barcelona, a film I’ve never heard of, and will be appearing in the upcoming stage-to-screen adaptation Frost/Nixon.
Ben Barnes is in the role of Mr. Gray, while Colin Firth will be playing the man who corrupts him the most. Other cast members recently added include Ben Chaplin (The Thin Red Line), Emilia Fox (Cashback), Rachel Hurd-Wood (An American Haunting), Michael Culkin (Photographing Fairies) and Max Irons, son of Jeremy Irons.
Shooting on Dorian Gray will be underway soon, so look for more updates!

Rebecca Hall has joined the cast of Ealing Studios Oscar Wilde bigscreen adaptation Dorian Gray. As previously announced, Oliver Parker-directed Dorian Gray toplines Ben Barnes as Dorian Gray and also stars Colin Firth. Inside you'll find the plot details of the adaptation, along with the massive cast list. Based on the book The Picture of Dorian Gray, when Dorian Gray, a wealthy but naïve and irresistible young man, has his portrait pointed, he rashly wishes that he could remain as beautiful, youthful, and alluring as the handsome face in the portrait. Little does he know that his wish will come true. When encouraged by the decadent Lord Henry Wotton into a life of depravity and self-indulgence, Gray is stunned to discover that while the face in the painting is aging grotesquely, he is not! In fact, he remains as beautiful as ever.

When the week of July 26-August 1, 2008, began, San Diego Comic-Con was entering the final stretch and the Dread Central crew covering it were hitting their stride. We provided a massive amount of information -- and will have even more videos coming over the next week -- but what really stood out for me is how exciting the upcoming television season is. From "Fringe" to "Lost" to "Dexter" to "True Blood", there is so much potential for greatness. And after watching the first five minutes of the fourth season opener of "Supernatural", I'm even more anxious to see what trials and tribulations await the Winchester Brothers. As you'd expect, Padalecki and Ackles attracted one of the largest crowds and, aided by devil's advocate/showrunner Eric Kripke, provided one of the most entertaining panels at the show. And that's just one highlight out of a weekend full of them. Luckily we have
