It would be inaccurate to say that Ang Lee has ever been a lazy filmmaker. One of the very few successful directors to genuinely roll the dice every time he makes a movie, Lee is now set to take on one of the seminal moments in American pop culture history.
It was 39 years ago that Woodstock forever changed the course of rock n' roll, at once the apotheosis of 1960s counter culture and effectively the end of it. But for three days in August of that year, hippies and music lovers congregated on a farm in upstate New York by the hundreds of thousands to hear performances by The Who, Ccr, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Sha-Na-Na (?), The Grateful Dead, and more.
Lee will dramatize the events leading up to that fateful weekend in his next film, and his longtime collaborator James Schamus recently outlined the production to Rolling Stone.

Actor James Franco with his latest turn as the pot smoking guy on Pineapple Express is also set to star in Milk. He will be having a supporting role in the film. But the excitement generated by the film is sure going to get it in the indie box office favorites for the year. The film is sure to get a lot of Oscar buzz for Sean Pean’s take as a gay politician who was shot dead.
Franco on the other hand will play one of the supporters of Harvey Milk. His character Scott Smith is also his lover in the film. Milk was assassinated in 1978 by a man who had previously held his city office. The talented Emile Hirsch also plays the flamboyant Cleve Jones. The film has been the news for...

Surprisingly there hasn't been too many fictional films that have used the Woodstock music festival as a back drop. A crew member on Emile Hirsch's movie Speed Racer is convinced the actor is gay, after walking in on an awkward moment between him and co-star Kick Gurry
The pair was taking a break between scenes in a trailer onset in Berlin, Germany, when an assistant burst in, while the Into the Wild actor was half naked and out of breath.
Hirsch explains, "Me and Kick were in the trailer hanging out. Kick was sitting back with his hands behind his head and I was doing push ups. It was hot so I peeled my driver's suit down a bit, and then Eric, the wonderfully gay production assistant, walked in. I jumped up really quick, but I was out of breath.
"Eric slammed the door shut. We went to Eric later and tried to explain. He was like, 'Shhhhh. I will never tell.'"
But Hirsch discovered a positive side to the confusion, when Eric leaped to his defence during a later confrontation. He adds, "I then got in this feud with a German woman and Eric defended me. He told her, "You do not understand what this boy goes through every day.'"
Hirsch has been linked with Mamma Mia! star Amanda Seyfried, and Gurry dated Christina Ricci.

You know what, Shia LaBeouf gave Emile Hirsch one hell of a pounding last week, scoring 36 votes to his rival's 16. Ouch. This week's Face Off should prove a bit closer, being a duel between the two sexiest guys on The Apprentice, Lee 'Nice Bod' McQueen and Alex 'Nice Lips' Wotherspoon.
Huh? What do you mean we should have made it Raef vs. Sir Alan?

Actor Emile Hirsch was left stunned and sickened when he was presented with "pig knuckle" in a German restaurant while he was filming Speed Racer in Berlin.
The Into The Wild star was looking forward to dining on a local delicacy - until it actually arrived.
He says, "It was like the hoof (trotter) of a pig and it's really big and they steamed it and I got it and I was really excited, and then it sat in front of me.
"I have never sent something back without taking a bite... and I had to send it back.
"I was like, 'I'll pay for it right now, just please get it out of here.' It was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen."

The Wachowski brothers have officially left this mortal coil. Any suggestion that a live-action take on a frivolous '60s anime series would represent a downshift in ambition after The Matrix trilogy is dispelled within the first few seconds of Speed Racer, which seems to take the concept of 600 km/hr. racing cars as aesthetic inspiration. Painting with Cgi, the Wachowskis have constructed a candy-colored future so wholly artificial that the humans appear out of place, grafted crudely onto a world that's evolved past them. Granted, Hollywood blockbusters like 300 and Beowulf have recently expanded the potential of digital effects, but with nothing like the aggression of Speed Racer, which is borderline-experimental in the way it challenges the limits of perception. It's forward-thinking, visionary, and much of the time unwatchable. With a name that really suits only one possible occupation, young Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) dreams of following in...

This week sees the return of the Wachowski brothers, Tarsem Singh ("The Cell") and Henry Bean ("The Believer") to the big screen, not to mention new films from documentarians Nick Broomfield ("Tupac and Biggie") and Doug Pray ("Scratch"). On the other hand, after running around Tribeca, we still need to catch up on last week's releases.
The idea of the spunky teenage boy succumbing to the allure of an experienced older woman is the kind of Hollywood golden goose that launches major careers (think Dustin Hoffman). But when the roles are reversed, the result is the directorial debut of David Ross that sees an entrepreneurial high schooler (Katherine Waterston, daughter of Sam) and her friends turn their babysitting ring into a call girl service, realizing there are alternative ways to pay for college besides waiting tables. It stars when one local dad (John Leguizamo) goes

Actor Emile Hirsch once intimidated several unsuspecting onlookers - after venturing off a film set with a temporary tattoo on his face.
The 22-year-old was required to shave his head and wear a tattoo of a zipper on his skull while filming the 2005 skateboarding drama Lords Of Dogtown - and he was stunned to see how people reacted to his bizarre appearance while out and about in Los Angeles.
He recalls, "There were days when I would leave the tattoo on and walk into bars. I thought it's be fun to walk into these places with a tattoo on my face and a shaved head, and see people's reactions.
"Everyone responds, and you get even more of a reaction than if you were, say, walking around with a celebrity!"
