DVD Review: The Fall

2 September 2008 1:07 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Director and co-writer Tarsem's The Fall, the follow-up to the visually resplendent Jennifer Lopez thriller The Cell, is one of the year's best films you probably haven't seen. Filmed in 18 different countries over a four year period, this audaciously constructed and paced gothic fairy tale of friendship and loss is as engrossing as it is wonderful. It is a story of intense drama, stirring action and heartbreaking emotion, all of it stimulated by the actions of a five-year-old child whose limitless curiosities can't help but inspire. Alexandria (Catinca Untaru) is the young daughter of immigrant migrant farmers working the fields in 1915 Los Angeles. After she breaks her arm in a fall during a tragic accident, she finds herself wandering the halls of a secluded hospital looking for things to do. It is here she meets bedridden movie stuntman Roy Walker (Lee Pace), also the victim of a horrific fall

On DVD Today: August 19, 2008

DVD Links: Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed Dexter - The Complete Second Season I already reviewed this second season of Showtime's "Dexter" and offered up quite a bit of praise, but as I say in my review, if you are interested in getting started with this show about a Miami blood splatter specialist doubling as a serial killer I recommend you first check out the first season because this is a show you don't want to jump into in the middle. If you have a Netflix Roku player you can check it out in the Instant Play as I did. Quick, easy and simple. I am not sure if this is a show you will want to buy however. As much as I enjoyed my time watching it, the second season character Lila played by Jaime Murray really hurts any chance of watching it over and over again.

The following contains Moderate Spoilers for the second year of "Pushing Daisies" on ABC. The second season of ABC's fantasy series "Pushing Daisies" is quickly approaching, and it will be taking us to some truly offbeat locations. "The setting for the first one is in, like, a Burt's Bees massive factory of bee products," Lee Pace (Ned the Piemaker) told Scifi Wire. "The killer is killing people with a swarm of bees. The second episode takes place in the circus. The third episode is at the nunnery." Co-star Anna Friel (Chuck), who by the way was nominated for a SyFy Genre Award for Best TV Actress, said that the loving couple will be all decked out in beekeeper suits from the very first scene of the first episode. "She gets her first-ever job at a honey factory, where she's a honey-bee ...

A Prize Fight

17 July 2008 9:23 PM, PDT | From NYPost.com | See recent New York Post news

The Emmy awards changed the plot completely yesterday.

Nominations for TV's highest awards were announced yesterday and, for the first time, cable TV - not the traditional broadcast shows - rocked the house.

"This was the watershed breakthrough year for the Emmys," says Tom O'Neil of online awards site theenvelope.com.

"Networks like Showtime, AMC and FX didn't just get into the race - they knocked the door down!"

Dramas like "Mad Men," "Dexter" and "Damages" humbled more highly rated shows like "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" which

'Pushing Daises,' 'Tin Man' Lead Genre Emmy Nominees

17 July 2008 12:40 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

And the nomination goes to "Pushing Daisies" on ABC, a series that really cleaned up in a lot of the comedy series categories of this year's prime time Emmy awards earning 12 nominations. While many of the show's nominations were in technical categories, there also were a few key nominations including Lee Pace for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Kristin Chenowith for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Pace, who plays Ned in the ABC series, has some stiff competition including Alec Baldwin from NBC's "30 Rock," Tony Shalhoub from USA's "Monk," Steve Carell from "The Office" on NBC, and Charlie Sheen from "Two and a Half Men" on CBS. Chenowith also will have her work cut out for her. She faces Jean Smart from "Samantha Who?" on ABC, Amy Poehler from ...

Opening This Week

5 May 2008 8:14 AM, PDT | From ifc.com | See recent IFC news

By Neil Pedley

This week sees the return of the Wachowski brothers, Tarsem Singh ("The Cell") and Henry Bean ("The Believer") to the big screen, not to mention new films from documentarians Nick Broomfield ("Tupac and Biggie") and Doug Pray ("Scratch"). On the other hand, after running around Tribeca, we still need to catch up on last week's releases.

"The Babysitters"

The idea of the spunky teenage boy succumbing to the allure of an experienced older woman is the kind of Hollywood golden goose that launches major careers (think Dustin Hoffman). But when the roles are reversed, the result is the directorial debut of David Ross that sees an entrepreneurial high schooler (Katherine Waterston, daughter of Sam) and her friends turn their babysitting ring into a call girl service, realizing there are alternative ways to pay for college besides waiting tables. It stars when one local dad (John Leguizamo) goes

Itv drops 'Pushing Daisies' for football

15 April 2008 4:19 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

Itv will not screen the second episode of Us drama Pushing Daisies because it doesn't have enough room on its schedule.

The show, which stars Lee Pace as a pie-maker who can bring people back to life, debuted to strong ratings on Saturday but Itv has confirmed it only has room to air eight of the nine episodes before the Euro 2008 football tournament starts.

A spokesman for Itv said: "Episode two was the only show we could drop without spoiling the storyline."

'Pushing Daisies' Hits the Paley Festival

17 March 2008 6:43 AM, PDT | From buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news

The week-long Paley Festival in Los Angeles has long been hallowed ground for television fans.  Over the years, the casts and creative minds behind the most popular and beloved series on TV have been welcomed at the Paley Fest to talk about their show, screen episodes, and interact with the fans.  2008's Paley Fest kicked into high gear on Saturday, when the cast of Pushing Daisies, along with creator/mastermind Bryan Fuller, showed up to entertain the masses.  Unfortunately, we at BuddyTV were not in attendance, but thanks to TV Guide, we learned what went down on Saturday night in the Cinerama Dome.

On hand for the festivities were creator Bryan Fuller, producers Peter Ocko, Dan Jinks, Bruce Cohen and cast members Lee Pace, Anna Friel, Kristin Chenoweth, Chi McBride, and Ellen Greene.

One of the main things I was really happy to hear about were Bryan Fuller's comments regarding the strike.
