Anti Military Rubbish, 26 August 2001
1/10
Author: Theo Robertson from Isle Of Bute , Scotland

David Thewlis plays a young British Soldier who turns up in The Falklands a few weeks after being presumed dead , and begins to realise that peace can sometimes be almost as unbearable as war.

This possibly had the potential to be a fairly good film , but both director and screenwriter decided that most soldiers are a bunch of viscous bullying thugs that make neandrathal man look civilised. This is typical of trendy British film makers who can`t grasp the fact that it`s war itself that`s the enemy of mankind and not the military. THE HILL may suffer from this flaw but unlike RESURRECTED it`s extremely involving. If directors like Paul Greengrass want to make antiwar films I suggest they watch DAS BOOT , CROSS OF IRON , PLATOON or even listen to Pink Floyd`s antiwar requim THE FINAL CUT to understand what makes an antiwar film. And it doesn`t involve putting the boot into everyone to have worn an army uniform
