Trivia:
The "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" (1962)'s previous host, Johnny Carson, never once appeared on successor Jay Leno's show. Carson did, however, appear twice on rival late night talk show "Late Show with David Letterman" (1993) (in a walk-on appearance soon after Letterman's show debuted, and later in a filmed sketch). In the years following Carson's "Tonight Show" retirement, he reportedly contributed jokes to Letterman's monologues from time to time. moreQuotes:
[Jay Leno tells a joke about Bush "outsourcing" the presidency]Jay Leno: That seemed kinda mean, didn't it? Who is writing all these Bush jokes? Ellen, put on the camera in the cue card room.
[switches camera to John Edwards writing monologue cue cards]
Jay Leno: Who's writing in there?
John Edwards: Hey Jay - you do your job, and let me do mine.

I saw some of the comments on the database for Jay Leno's show. It was mixed reviews. I personally enjoy this show a lot. The jokes are funny in his monolouge, the segments are hilarious and the guests just keep getting more, and more famous. I never say Johnny Carson's show but I'll say that he made a good decision choosing Leno to replace him.
I heard that there was a lot of conterversy towards Leno when he replaced Carson because it was every talk-show host's dream. I'll just say this. He deserved it. He was on Carson's show a lot and all these guys that got mad at him already had shows. The Tonight Show has and always will be the best.
