One of those whose you get knowing each word of their dialogs. I mean in French, sure, cause dubbing Blanche, Serrault, Galabru, Yanne or Cowl's voices would be a real massacre and not have the least interest anymore. It was in 1967 and I was only four... Therefore I do not remember very well the morals and customs of those years, but I know, I feel this movie smells good the happiness and joy of living "à la française".
Do you know that on my VHS which may date about 1977, they had cut the sequence where a "carnival" prostitute is under arrest at the police station, and with her girlfriend starts taunting a bit police officer Galabru and his squad ?... They cut that. It was : sacrilegious... When the most ridiculous you take seriously... Here's my country.
Schlumberger : F. Blanche, Pelletier : M. Serrault, Broca : J. Yanne... So many occasions to laugh in this movie... Francis Blanche, high businessman with a grotesque German tone, comes in front of the entry of the factory he must inspect : "messiééérs, jé... AH !" he slips on the stairs because of too much drinking, then bumps into the glass door and apologize : "sé la prémiére fois jé fviens, aloors !...". Or when he comes at Mr Pelletier's and has been welcomed by a girl in "mini-jupe" : "messsiéérs, jé né vous direz bas qué jé suis surpris bar cet accueeil !... à la véritéé jé m'attendais un mpeu !"...
Score's Darry Cowl's... Mr Schlumberger's theme is to die by laughter. Sort of most ridiculous military march you've ever heard. This theme is resumed when afraid, Schlumberger comes with Pelletier to take Broca "the bad guy" to the police, they points toy-guns and just when they're going to open the door of Broca's apartment, you hear again this march playing very slowly and softly, with a tuba which somewhere makes a sound looking like a fart... Even I would not be a musician, it would make me laugh anyway. Well, I think...
