Casting the 2008 Presidential Election

16 October 2008 1:05 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Forget Oliver Stone's W. (which is quite boring if you ask me), we are going major and leaving no stone unturned as we set out to cast a feature film adaptation of the 2008 Presidential Election. From the media elite to the folks at the top of the ticket there is hardly a name we leave off this list and myself along with the help of my casting directors Laremy Legel and David Frank have put together a list of names that won't necessarily break the bank of our producers, but represent some of the finest talent in Hollywood and will be put to good use. Currently Eric Roth (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Forrest Gump and The Insider) is writing the script for Steven Soderbergh to direct. Roth has shown the ability to tap into a political thrill ride with The Insider but also shown a more comedic

Adding to Ew's Nominees for Worst Movie Lines Ever

14 October 2008 1:30 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Entertainment Weekly has put together a pretty fun list of 15 bad lines of dialogue from a variety of films including Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, Ever After, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, X-Men, As Good as It Gets and two Julia Roberts flicks. My personal fav they listed is when Padme (Natalie Portman) says, "Hold me, like you did by the lake on Naboo," to Anakin in Star Wars 3, that is just classic. You can check out their list here, but I thought I would add a few personal favorites to the nominees. Any of you have any you would like to add? Morpheus in The Matrix Reloaded The Scene: After meeting with the Merovingian and being escorted out with no luck Trinity says, "Maybe we did something wrong." Morpheus then utters this "happened" filled line. The Line: "No, what happened, happened and couldn't have happened any other way.

My Last Review Concerning 'The Matrix' Trilogy Goes Blu

14 October 2008 1:29 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Since starting RopeofSilicon I have done theatrical reviews of The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. I then reviewed the Matrix Revolutions DVD, the Ultimate Matrix DVD set and the Ultimate Matrix HD DVD set. As a result and upon receipt of the Blu-ray edition of the Ultimate Matrix set I felt it was finally time to put this much talked about trilogy behind me. I started by doing my first official review of the original Matrix (read here), and new reviews of Reloaded (read here) and Revolutions (read here). My decision to review and re-review all three films had to do with the fact that when I first reviewed the two sequels I was still green to the movie reviewer game and on top of that opinions change. While my opinion of the first film remains strong my opinion of the two sequels continues to dwindle. I continue to

Movie Review: The Matrix Reloaded (2003)

14 October 2008 1:08 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

It all started out so pretty

Photo: Warner Bros. Four years following the release of The Matrix the Wachowski brothers bring back Neo, Trinity, Morpheus and Agent Smith to fight another day. Anticipation couldn't be higher, so much to the point there was no way the film could live up to it. Simultaneously shot with the third film in the trilogy (Matrix Revolutions) to be released six months afterward, The Matrix Reloaded begins an undetermined time into the future since we last watched Neo fly off into the atmosphere after threatening to show the machines a world without them. Well, that didn't work out too well because as we are getting our first glimpse of the underground human stronghold Zion and learning the machines are digging their way through the Earth and should be there soon enough kill the humans in about 72 hours, give or take. When I first saw

Blu-ray Review: Speed Racer

22 September 2008 11:21 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Speed Racer was a disaster in theaters and it is an even bigger one on DVD/Blu-ray. Watching Warner Bros.' Blu-ray release at home almost proved to be an impossibility. Why? At least in the movie theater the sensory overload was so all-encompassing it somewhat dulled the film's numerous structural failures. In the comfort of my living room, devoid of all the bells, whistles and an obnoxious preview audience directors Larry and Andy Wachowski's labor of love was stripped of all its distractions, the emptiness of the script and the colossal unfocused nature of it all suddenly front and center for everyone to see. While this is supposed to be a movie about flashy visuals and heartfelt family values, what it all adds up to is a disaster that's as perplexing and annoying as it is sometimes difficult to take your eyes off of (at least as long

Harold Perrineau is the latest to join Mark Young’s upcoming indie thriller “Killing Jar,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In the film written by Young, an armed stranger takes seven patrons hostage in a diner. As people start to die, some of the survivors discover that one of the hostages may actually be more dangerous than the hostage taker.

Michael Madsen and Danny Trejo are already on board. Perrineau plays John, a traveling salesman who’s also one of the hostages.

Besides his role as Michael Dawson in television’s “Lost,” Perrineau also starred in “Oz.” His big-screen credits include “The Matrix Reloaded” and “28 Weeks Later.”

Batman: Gotham Knight DVD Review

1 August 2008 3:46 PM, PDT | From TwitchFilm.net | See recent Twitch news

Over the past seventy-odd years there have been countless Batman stories told. So many in fact that it’s a flat-out miracle we’re still not fed up with Bruce Wayne and his mental situation.

But strangely enough there are still several comic book series released each month, the television series was and is very successful, and, well…

...need I mention the movies?

With his two films “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight”, Christopher Nolan proved that there is still value in flogging this particular horse. Apparently we can’t get enough of being told the same story over and over again, provided somebody manages to put an interesting spin on the details, the designs or the viewpoint.

With this in mind Warner Brothers greenlit the “Batman: Gotham Knight” project. An anthology in six parts, it tells a story loosely taking place in the space between the two Nolan movies,

Jolie Tops Motorcycle Movie Poll

23 May 2008 12:17 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Angelina Jolie's action-packed motorcycle chase in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider has been named the best two-wheeled movie moment of all time, in a poll by biker fans.

The actress' bike chase in the 2001 hit computer game adaptation topped of a poll issued by U.K. bike insurers Bennetts - beating legendary actor Steve McQueen's iconic on-bike flight in The Great Escape.

Tom Cruise's high-fuelled motorbike adventures in Top Gun was voted in third place, with special effect blockbusters The Matrix Reloaded and Terminator 2 taking the fourth and fifth places respectively.

Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper's cult 1969 road movie Easy Rider - which depicts the life of a group of doomed bikers - was snubbed by film fans, failing to make the poll's top five.

Gibson Speaks Out About Construction Worker's Suicide

20 March 2008 5:13 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Latest: Mel Gibson has been left devastated after hearing the news of a construction worker's suicide at his California home.

The body of 48-year-old Michael John Van Dyke, who reportedly hanged himself, was found at the Agoura Hills property on Wednesday.

The house is currently under heavy construction and the Lethal Weapon star and his family were not present at the time of the incident.

A representative for the actor/director admits Gibson feels "terrible" about the situation, even though he had never met Van Dyke himself.

Van Dyke is alleged to have been an old friend of the contractor hired to work on Gibson's mansion, but had no direct ties to the actor.

According to Tmz.com, Van Dyke worked as a construction foreman on movie sets including The Matrix Reloaded, Star Trek: Nemisis and Dr. Dolittle 2.

He was reportedly experiencing financial difficulty following a messy divorce at the time of his death.
