New Blackbeard Movie to Feature Actual Raping, Pillaging

24 September 2008 6:16 AM, PDT | From Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news

Hollywood studio execs are legendary copycats, so it's a bit surprising that the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy's massive profits didn't immediately spawn a slew of buccaneer-themed projects. One notable exception is Dreamworks' upcoming biopic of the notorious English privateer who terrorized travelers of the high seas in the early 18th century.

In contrast to the family-friendly romp that was Pirates of the Caribbean, Blackbeard will present a "serious" take on its subject "based on historical fact," producer Barry Josephson promised MTV News in a recent interview. That means lots of violence, debauchery, and (hopefully) no poncy Orlando Bloom types. Cool.

In other Blackbeard news, IGN reported earlier this week that acclaimed Bourne helmer Paul "cinema verite" Greengrass is apparently at the top of the list to direct the film -- a dicey proposition, indeed, for moviegoers with weak stomachs. The prospect of placing Greengrass and his army of hand-held

According to Daily Variety, Dwayne Johnson - aka The Rock - is being lined up to star in the space-based movie.

Knightley Still Waiting On My Fair Lady Confirmation

17 September 2008 9:04 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Keira Knightley insists she hasn't secured the lead role in the remake of My Fair Lady just yet, despite reports to the contrary.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star is the favourite to take Audrey Hepburn's iconic role in the update of the 1964 musical, based on George Bernard Shaw's comedy of manners Pygmalion.

But Knightley is adamant a final casting decision has yet to be made - so she's keeping her "fingers crossed".

However, if she does become the leading lady, she is keen to try and hit the high notes - and sing all the musical's songs without any help.

She tells MTV.com, "It's an interesting prospect, but there's nothing concrete. Fingers crossed on that one (landing the part).

"I like doing things where I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do them or not (singing). I think you have to push yourself. You have to admit you're going to fail at some point. You've got to try. Like with anything I do, there's always a part of me that says, 'I can't do that. This is going to be the one where I fall on my face completely.' It would be exciting to try it."

Johnny Depp is set to reunite with Pirates Of The Caribbean director Gore Verbinski in a new animated movie.

Depp will lend his voice to a household pet who goes on an adventure in Rango, an idea dreamed up by Verbinski.

The project is a collaboration with George Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic, and Verbinski is promising it will take animation to the next level.

He tells Daily Variety, "(Cutting edge techniques) will allow us to capture and translate every aspect of Johnny's performance, using it to drive the computer-generated character in a way that has yet to be seen in an animated feature."

The movie is slated for a 2011 release.

Knightley Slams Paparazzi

8 September 2008 5:10 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

British actress Keira Knightley has hit out at photographers who follow her - because too much attention is not good for her film career.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star insists the biggest stars are hardly ever pictured in public, and that over-exposure of Hollywood A-listers puts people off seeing their movies.

And she claims some snappers deliberately hurl insults at her to try to provoke a reaction and get a better picture.

She says, "I know that I am very lucky, but sometimes the intrusion is a very predatory force. When you are leaving your front door and paparazzi who are a lot bigger than you are shouting, 'You're a whore' to try and make you cry - that obviously is not great.

"I am told by a lot of the paparazzi who follow me that they are helping my career but, by that logic, Paris Hilton should be the biggest box-office catch in the world and she isn't."

And Knightley adds: "It is not good for any actor when your life becomes the story because, in your acting work, you are trying to tell a different story. What's more, there is actual proof that if actors get too much attention, people just don't go and see the film. That sort of over-exposure is something to be wary of."

Depp Eyes U.K. Move

5 August 2008 12:00 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Hollywood actor Johnny Depp is considering a move to the U.K - he has reportedly been househunting in the English countryside.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star currently lives in France with his long-term girlfriend Vanessa Paradis and their two children.

But Depp is rumoured to be looking to buy a country estate in Norfolk, England after he reportedly viewed an $11 million (GBP5.5 million) mansion just outside the East Anglian city of Norwich.

Last month the actor thrilled a group of local children by donating signed photographs to a neighbourhood troop of Girl Scouts - fuelling speculation he is planning a move to the area.

The real estate agent handling the property has refused to confirm rumours that Depp has put in an offer, saying, "We can't confirm who we've been talking to about the estate.

"There has been a lot of interest but we cannot disclose the names of any potential purchaser."

Depp Ships Wine To Film Set

23 June 2008 5:05 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Pirates Of The Caribbean star Johnny Depp missed his home comforts while working on a new movie in the U.S. - so he arranged for a shipment of wine to be sent over from his house in France.

The actor lives full time in the south of France with his French partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children - and the couple owns a vineyard where they produce their own wine.

And Depp couldn't stand being without his beloved bottles of wine while working on new crime film Public Enemies in Illinois - so he arranged for a shipment to be sent over to the movie set for him and his fellow cast and crewmembers to enjoy.

A source tells British newspaper the Daily Mirror, "Johnny's a fine wine buff and has his own vineyard. He's had 10 crates of his own wine shipped over to keep him going.

"He is very serious about his hobby and does everything himself - from selecting the grapes to working the machinery. Johnny's a connoisseur.

"It's fair to say that he's made filming a far more enjoyable experience."

Depp Has 'No Plans' To Wed Paradis

22 June 2008 4:04 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Johnny Depp's publicist has been forced to speak out to quash new reports alleging the actor and his longtime partner Vanessa Paradis have married.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star was rumoured to be planning to wed Paradis at Sandra Bullock's Georgia home earlier this month, but Depp's representative shot down those claims, insisting they were false.

New rumours arose this week (ends20Jun08), alleging Depp and Paradis were to exchange nuptials in Kentucky.

But Depp's spokesperson has again had to move fast to nix those reports, telling Usmagazine.com the claims are "not true".

The representative adds: "There is no wedding."

The couple has been together for 10 years and have two children - Lily-Rose, nine, and Jack, six.

Lopez tells People magazine, "(It's) a long ride... It's very dark. Hopefully I'll get the raft named after me."

Stars Help To Raise $4 Million At Charity Auction

9 June 2008 12:00 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actors Kevin Spacey, Kate Beckinsale and Hugh Grant helped to raise more than $4 million (GBP2 million) for cancer research, after attending a charity auction in London on Saturday.

U2 frontman Bono, Pirates of the Caribbean hunk Orlando Bloom and his model girlfriend Miranda Kerr were also in attendance at the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation Gala, which was held in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace - the former home of British royal King Henry VIII.

Philanthropist Bono made a surprise appearance on stage hailing the work of the organisation, before making way for Notting Hill star Grant to begin the auction.

And Grant showed his generous side by bidding $250,000 (GBP125,000) for a chance to have dinner with the former president of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, who founded the organisation. The money will go towards funding cancer research in the U.K. and Russia, reports People.com.

Bloom admitted he was thrilled to be a part of the event - and would have loved the chance to dine with the former Soviet leader had it not been such an expensive auction item.

He says, "It is amazing to come and support something associated with Mikhail Gorbachev because of what he did. He's going to go down in history because of the way he changed the world."
