Judge Mathis is the best! He always makes me laugh, because he goes off
tangent sometimes when dealing with a case. He'll ask some awkward
questions that aren't relevant to the case. But who cares. He has a
good sense of humor, and listens to both sides of the case. Unlike
those other court shows like Judge Judy who gets mad for the stupidest
little things. Judge Mathis doesn't get mad if even the defendant
interrupts, and is very funny. He is also fair and caring towards both
parties when it comes to his final judgment of a case. If you don't
have the evidence, he will of course have to dismiss your claim. But
then again any judge would do the same.

First of all, I am a BIG Judge Mathis fan. I record the show everyday
and watch it in the evenings, if time permits, or the next morning
before I'm off to work. I do have one concern -- I have seen him
accept, on more than one occasion, the use of e-mails for evidence. Do
the producers of the show realize that e-mails can be ALTERED by the
plaintiff or defendant for their burden of proof? I'm just wondering,
because I have seen a couple of cases in the past where that evidence
has helped sway the judge's decision. Please let me know if I am
missing something here. Finally, I have found the show to be funny,
entertaining (you couldn't write a script like that,) and educational
as far as my knowledge of the law. Keep up the good work and I look
forward to future season shows!

I agree with the poster who said you can't write this comedy. The jokes
come straight from the horse's mouth, out of left field, just when you
least expect them.
I get more laughs from a single show than from some entire series of
some comedies, and even some that I enjoyed.
Typical exchange:
Judge: You're suing for defamation. Plaintiff: Yes, your honour, she
told people that I was dating a hermaphrodite, and that I only started
professional wrestling so that I could rub up against men. Judge: Do
you have proof that this damaged your career. Plaintiff: Not really. I
... I'm not allowed to wrestle anymore in Kentucky...
Although the Judge does have a weakness for picking fun at some of
these ridiculous people (how could you resist ?) he does have a heart,
and makes a point to provide a moral centre to the show.
Well done.

I worked in retail for many, many years, so I know what it's like to
deal with the, shall we say intellectually stifled on a daily basis.
What I delt with was almost EXACTLY like what I see on the Judge Mathis
show. I find it very gratifying to see someone on television dealing
with difficult people with such humor and aplomb. As to this matter of
Judge Mathis' inappropriate comments: The Honorable Judge Mathis only
makes rude or impertinent remarks to people who have been inappropriate
themselves. Watching the show with an careful and observant eye, will
reveal that his truly acerbic jabs are, in fact reversals of the
staggeringly ignorant remarks made by the litigants appearing before
him. While I would never assert that Judge Mathis is, or should be
everyone's idea of enjoyable daytime TV, I would however ask that the
good judge's senses of humor and style be respected.

Out of all the judge TV shows produced during the 90s and 00's this one
is probably the best. He has the best combination of entertainment
value, compassion, and legal competency. The thing that impressed me
the most about Judge Mathis was his ability to cut through the BS
stories and lies and get to the truth, often tripping up litigants and
tricking them into revealing the truth. His background growing up in
the streets often showed when dealing with druggies, con men/women, and
other shady types trying to pull one over on him. His compassion and
conviction often showed when lecturing kids going down the wrong path,
and challenging their negligent parents to do their jobs. Unlike shows
like Judge Judy which I found to be too negative and cold he often
lightened up the mood by joking with litigants adding more
entertainment value (after all it is a TV show).
Compared to other judges like ... Judge Joe Brown (too old fashion and
dull), Judge Judy (too mean), Judge Hatchett (too wimpy), Judge Milian
(People's Court) (too loud) .. I think Judge Mathis was just right.

I find it offensive that a judge would tell a defendant that he needs
to be saved by Jesus.I also noted that he sided with someone who has
the same beliefs. If I were in the court as a participant I would bring
him up on charges.I would feel the same way if he said I needed to be
saved by allah or anyone else.Religion has no place in a courtroom or
have you not heard of separation of church and state?I have also
noticed a very unprofessional atmosphere in this courtroom.I assume
this is only entertainment and not so much a place to learn the way
judges behave in any courtroom that I have appeared in.Please do not
feel that I have singled out The Judge Mathis Show as I believe all the
"courtroom" shows are pretty unprofessional.Thank you.

I just witnessed JM believe a known drunk abuser (witness statements)
over a composed young lady who said the obviously drunk-looking man
sold her car and kept the money instead of giving her the cash. He said
someone stole the car over Christmas - but the question still hung in
the air - why didn't he call her and tell her of the crime OR call the
police??? Judge Mathis completely ignored those 2 critical questions
and this freaking loser got away with the crime. He was clapping at the
verdict - No one else was because it was unbelievable... he does not
deserve that job - he is not a wise man nor a just man. He makes
hurtful jokes and makes his living making other people look bad. I will
say that he is better than Maria Lopez though - but the best judge in
my opinion is Marilyn Millian - She is SO AMAZING!!! always sticks to
the law and doesn't let people get away with the crap the other 2
judges do. Get rid of those idiots please!

I enjoy Judge Mathis and the other judges, but I watch Judge Mathis
mostly because I think he is so handsome. However I do not like it when
he assumes that people are "crackheads" or in gangs. Sometimes there
are people on the show who really are on drugs and in gangs, and then
judge Mathis gets on his high horse and criticizes them, and then in
the same breath admits to doing those EXACT same things before he
became a judge. I think that if he didn't know that his mom was going
to die, he would still be into the same things. He also makes comments
about the women, which would be borderline sexual harassment in my
book. He is at times very arrogant, however there are times when he
does make good points and sometimes has compassion for the guests on
the show. There was one show during the first season where he was in
tears because there was a guy who was into gangs but turned his life
around, yet his family still were dwelling on his past after he had
made up for his wrong-doings by helping his family out. I commend Judge
Mathis, for getting out of the stereotypical trap and getting his G.E.D
and then going to college. His story shows that ANYBODY can get back on
their feet and make a difference.

Judge Mathis is one of the worst shows on TV. It is hard to believe he
is actually a Judge. He makes terrible hurtful unfounded remarks to the
people standing before him and worst of all he does not listen. If he
came from the streets, he must still be there because he does not
conduct himself in a professional manner befitting a judge. He should
watch Judge Alex and see how he conducts his court room. Judge Alex
gives one warning and says "this is my courtroom and if you cannot
conduct yourself in a right manner, then I will put you out." And
believe me he follows through, and most of all he listen to both sides
of the problem. He makes a fair decision based on the law.
Judge Mathis, Judge Judy, should quit. they are a terrible example of
behavior.

I have watched Judge Mathis for some time now and enjoy most of them
because he appears to be a fair and impartial judge, however, as of
late it seems that the Bailiff tries to steal the show from Judge
Mathis with his comments and actions while the Judge is hearing a case.
I do not think he is acting very professional as others do on other
court shows. I think it would be better if he were to be there to keep
order in the court, and not to make his sly comments about what the
people who are before the judge is saying or what is otherwise going
on. Again let me say that from the way he stands against the judges bar
with his hands on his hips, making his comments and other actions are
very unprofessional. Thank you.
