I am a big fan of Steve Coogan and all his characters. However this is beginning to wear a bit thin.
I bought this DVD so as I could become accustomed to Coogans live performances. After viewing his two previous efforts (Live'N'Lewd and The man who thinks he is) I found him to be quite talented and very original. However after this whatever he releases live is just an attempt to capitalize on his creations. This show was an one off to to celebrate the set up of BBC3. The show itself is only an half an hour and most of the jokes are recycled from his previous shows.
On this DVD there is a documentary on the writing and developing of the show. This is very boring and not worth the tape it was filmed on. Basicially it features Steve discussing the origins of Paul & Pauline Calf and the hapless comedian Duncan Thicket.
The only highlight is the first ever appearances of Paul and Pauline on the 1993 Starurday Zoo. These I will admit are very funny and had me in belly aching pain watching them. They are really the only reason to buy the DVD's.
What I am trying to say is that this DVD is aimed for the Hardcore Coogan fans. I love Coogans work but this to me is just shameless profiteering on his behalf. The reason I awarded it four out of ten instead of zero is because the first two stars are for the Saturday Zoo feature and the second two stars are because I bought it for £4.99.
