Longoria Parker Takes Name Out Of Alma Contention

22 July 2008 9:16 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Eva Longoria Parker has withdrawn her name from contention for the 2008 American Latino Media Arts (Alma) Awards - because she wants acting newcomers to be recognised for their efforts.

The 33-year-old Desperate Housewives star joined former Dancing With The Stars contestant Cristian de la Fuente to announce the nominations for this year's ceremony at the Universal Studios Backlot in California on Monday.

And after revealing the new contenders, she admitted she had asked to have her own name removed from the running.

She says, "Everybody knows Desperate Housewives; let's recognise the people that you may not know on certain shows.

"I'm involved in the balloting and the selection process and the committee. So for me it was a conflict of interest."

The winners will be revealed at a ceremony hosted by Longoria Parker on 17 August and will be aired on U.S. TV on 12 September.

High School Musical Hits Sour Note

21 July 2008 10:30 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Disney learned Sunday that its High School Musical brand has limits to its success. Only 4 million viewers tuned in to High School Musical: Get in the Picture, a talent competition that aired on Disney's ABC. The show placed dead last among the key demographic group of adults 18-49. Last year 17.24 million viewers tuned in to the Disney Channel for the debut of High School Musical 2. ABC was apparently so confident of big numbers for Sunday night's show that it scheduled a repeat for tonight (Monday). Continuing to make a strong showing on Sunday night was NBC's magazine show Dateline, which NBC recently moved to 9:00 p.m. from its former 7:00 p.m. time period where it competed head-to-head against CBS's top-rated 60 Minutes. A two-hour edition of Dateline led in both the 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. hours, beating reruns of such top regular-season audience grabbers as CBS's Cold Case and CSI: NY and ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Desperate Housewives. Overall ratings for the broadcast networks continued to look bleak, with NBC winning the night with just a 4.0 rating and a 7 share. CBS finished second with a 3.9/7. ABC placed third with a 2.7/5, which Fox trailed with a 1.8/3.

Longoria Parker's Cheap Haircut

21 July 2008 5:02 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria Parker saved some money on her recent hair cut - she got husband Tony to lop off her long locks for her.

The actress recently opted for a drastic new look by swapping her lengthy tresses for a short bob cut.

And the star reveals her husband wielded the scissors and did the honours - but she warded off a hair disaster by keeping her regular stylist on hand to tidy up the cut.

She says, "Tony cut my hair. Ken (Paves, celebrity hairdresser) fixed it. He set it up for Tony and said, 'You do the first cut. I don't want her to be mad if she hates it.'"

End Is Near For Desperate Housewives

19 July 2008 6:58 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry has set a deadline for the hit show to come to an end - insisting the progamme will definitely finish in 2011.

The comedy drama first hit screens in 2004 and the fifth season is due to air later this year (Sept08).

But Cherry, who also oversees the scripts, has decided that the programme will end after the seventh series - because he doesn't want to see the show's popularity to wane.

He says, "I love working with these gals. But we're going to get out while people still like us."

Longoria Gains Weight For TV Role

16 July 2008 9:01 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Eva Longoria Parker has laughed off rumours she is pregnant, insisting her recent weight gain is for her role in TV series Desperate Housewives.

The actress claims her new bob-style haircut and slightly fuller figure are a reflection of changes in the life of her on-screen character Gabrielle Solis, who becomes a mother-of-two in the forthcoming fifth season.

The star's representative, Liza Anderson, tells People.com, "She's a worn out mother with two kids. And even that (the weight gain) was not enough. She's also wearing butt pads and a stomach pad to play the part."

Longoria Parker, 33, has been dodging rumours she is expecting her first child after she was photographed in a bikini with an apparent baby bump while on a European vacation last week.

Actor James Denton is "relieved" to learn his Desperate Housewives character will live on - despite splitting from his on-screen wife, Teri Hatcher.

He reveals to People.com, "Mike and Susan have definitely split up.

"(But) I'm not sure exactly in what capacity (I will return). (Series creator) Marc Cherry is being a little cagey.

"It's going to be interesting to see what happens. But I will certainly be on the show. It's a relief to me, trust me."

Marcia Cross joins indie comedy ‘Peck’

26 June 2008 11:21 AM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Actress Marcia Cross, who’s been playing Bree Van De Kamp on TV’s “Desperate Housewives” for the past four years, will appear in Michael Nickles’ upcoming indie comedy “Peck,” according to Variety.

Although we don’t have that many details about the plot, the film centers on a high school kid who’s struggling with his parents’ incredible strictness and develops an unlikely friendship with the school’s most popular girl.

Keir Gilchrist, Adam Arkin and Brie Larson co-star. Cross jumps into the role of the high schooler’s mother.

Nickles is directing a script by Marc Arneson. Filming is already under way and should wrap this or next week.

Playing a strict mother is nothing new for Marcia Cross, and I’m she can pull this off without major difficulties. Let’s just hope she doesn’t have to play yet another desperate housewife.
