According to the Christmas 2006 issue of People magazine, Jeffrey Dean Morgan had to learn to play the guitar for his part in this film in a very short time. His guitar instructor was Nancy Wilson of the band Heart. Morgan was thrilled to take lessons from her because, in his own words, "I had such a crush on her as a kid." moreGoofs:

Wow, this movie blew me away, and I mean BLEW ME AWAY!!!!I was expecting alright, and got amazing!!First of all, let me say I was "VERY" excited when I heard some of the people in this film.Hilary Swank, Lisa Kudrow, and Kathy Bates, to be exact, for I think they all are fantastic. This movie was touching and warm, and it leaves with a wonderful feeling in your stomach. The whole script was actually breathtaking, and the acting was superb down to the last second. The comedy was laughable and the beginning of the film started out strong and carried on with the same level the whole way through the movie. This film, not being HIGHLY romantic, nor was it HIGHLY tearjerking, was great and I absolutely loved it to death.
