A NOTE ABOUT SPOILERS

The following FAQ entries may contain spoilers. Only the biggest ones (if any) will be covered with spoiler tags. It is assumed that no one who is diligently avoiding spoilers will be visiting this page in the first place.

For detailed information about the amounts and types of (a) sex and nudity, (b) violence and gore, (c) profanity, (d) alcohol, drugs, and smoking, and (e) frightening and intense scenes in this movie, consult the IMDb Parents Guide for this movie. The Parents Guide for The Strangers can be found at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0482606/parentalguide.

No. The Strangers was inspired by true events, and was written two years before Ils was made.

However, the movie was filmed six months after Ils was released to huge success in Europe, so while not an actual remake, some of the similarities are likely more than purely coincidental (for example, Ils also claimed to be "based on true events.")

The record is saying "Quicksilver girl". The song is "My First Lover" by Gillian Welch.

The director stated in an interview that he was inspired by a number of real-life happenings.

However, at the end of the credits, there is a disclaimer saying that all the events in the movie are fictional and any resemblances to any persons living or dead, etc, are completely coincidental.

*There is an event called The Keddie Cabin Murders though, which is very similar to the events in this movie.

"Because they were home," which translates to: because they are psychopaths who attack people at random just for the fun of it. Another theory is that Kristen denied James' proposal. If she had accepted it, the couple most likely would have stayed at the wedding reception and they wouldnt have "been home."

No. They're kept anonymous. Only brief glimpses are shown, such as Dollface's face cloaked in shadow, and The Man in the Mask's eyes in the truck's side-view mirror. You also see the profile shot of Pinup Girl's face when she exits the truck towards the end of the film. You also see one of the strangers' faces when she knocks on their door asking for a person. Though they didn't know that she was a killer yet.

There's a long enough pause between the noises being made and James appearing in the bedroom for this to be plausible. Likely the strangers saw his car approaching and hid.

"Sprout and the Bean" - Joanna Newsom

Other songs: "Ariel Ramirez" - Richard Bucknker, "Hopeful" - Jennifer O'Connor, "At My Window Sad and Lonely" - Billy Bragg and Wilco, "My First Lover" - Gillian Welch, "Mama Tried" - Merle Haggard

How does it end?

The strangers catch Kristen and James and tie them up. Then, they take turns stabbing them. Afterwards, they leave one by one. James eventually dies, but Kristen is still alive (though badly wounded). In the morning, two boys see Kristen and James' house broken into, so they go in. They find Kristen on the floor and one of the boys goes out to touch her. She wakes up and screams.

VideoETA.com estimates the DVD release date for October 2008.

No. But there are deleted scenes, such as: Kristen's death scene is probably different than it originally was, because in the trailers you can see Kristen crawling on the floor covered in blood; this was also included on one of the posters. There will probably be an unrated version with added scenes.
