The argument will rage for years whether "Last exit to Springfield" or "Lisa's Substitute" is the best episode of the series. The two finish 1 and 2 in almost every poll. Both episodes are works of genius (the most overused word in American history) and deserve to rank as the cream of America's greatest comedy show. The Jimmy Hoffa jokes, jokes about Mr. Burns billions of dollars (My Favorite: when he takes Homer on a tour of his home he shows him a million monkeys writing th greatest novel ever. He reads a page and it says: It was the Best Of Times It was the BLURST of times. He then screams "You STUPID MONKIES!!!) and Lisa's hilarious protest song (We'll dance day and night by the big cooling tour, they have the plant but we have the power) are enough, but the funniest bit on the show is the Grinch Stole Christmas references, which you have to see first hand to appreciate.
