Marvel Is Going Anime

29 August 2008 3:19 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Marvel Comics has done a bang-up job expanding their brand over the course of the last decade. After many stalled attempts to break into the realm of television with bland animated show (Spider-Man) after bland animated show (Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk) throughout the 90’s, Marvel decided to leave the cartoon stuff to rival DC and start the Millennium off right by conquering the multiplex.

Thanks to that bold endeavor, we fanboys now live in an age where our beloved icons serve as tent-poles for the summer blockbuster season, and our years of ardent hero-worship has made us sages in the geek-chic world order.

But now, with Marvel having dominated the comic book industry and striking major blows in the battle for the box office, what’s left? Well, as an answer, Marvel has turned it’s focus East… Far East - hoping to break into the last undiscovered country

Movie Review - 'Disaster Movie'

29 August 2008 11:00 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Disaster Movie

Starring Matt Lanter, Vanessa Minnillo, and Crista Flanagan

Directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer

Rated PG-13

As a critic, sometimes you can treat a movie more harshly than it probably deserves. That's not possible with Disaster Movie. I may have a hard time describing how unmistakably and unrelentingly bad this motion picture is.

In a weird way, I've been waiting for Disaster Movie for years. I can say without hesitation that it is one of the very worst movies I've ever seen, and the worst example of the medium I've reviewed since Swept Away back in 2002. It's probably worse than that film, in fact, because while Swept Away had terrible acting, a script that went nowhere, and a very questionable morality, at least it seems to be unaware of how bad it really is.

Disaster Movie, on the other hand, comes across as almost proud of its

Incredible Hulk Blu-Ray/DVD Details

27 August 2008 10:19 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Well, I wrote a post about the cover of the forthcoming Incredible Hulk DVD and a lot of you seemed to be into it, so I’m following that post up with this: details about which features will be included on both the Blu-Ray and DVD versions of The Incredible Hulk.

You can head over to Slash Film for the full tech specs, but don’t get too giddy; no confirmation that Edward Norton’s cut of the film will be included on either the DVD or Blu-Ray.The only things specified in Slash Film’s tech specs are the standard “deleted scenes,” along with an “alternate opening.” Could mean nothing, could mean everything.

The Blu-Ray does have one really cool feature: using your Blu-Ray player’s internet connection, you can swap  favorite scenes with friends or even engage in live chat as you watch the movie together.

Hulk DVD details!

27 August 2008 3:19 AM, PDT | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

digg_url = "http://digg.com/movies/Details_on_the_Incredible_Hulk_Blu_ray_and_3_disc_DVD"; Though the box-office grosses don't really show it, The Incredible Hulk is a far, far, far superior film to the 2003 Hulk and is a great movie in and of its own right. To me it was the definition of a great summer popcorn movie and I make no bones about putting it right up there with Iron Man. For those who weren't able to catch it in theaters or simply want another chance at it,...

Top Ten Movie Sequels

25 August 2008 2:30 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Top Ten Movie Sequels With The Dark Knight now firmly set as the second largest grossing film of all-time with I felt there was no time better than right now to take a look at the all-time greatest sequels in film history. Not an easy task and many factors must be considering when devising such a list. First off, I didn't consider any of the James Bond films or the Man with No Name films (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, For a Few Dollars More, A Fistful of Dollars) as sequels. To me pulling out one James Bond film is pretty much impossible. I have my personal favorite (The Living Daylights) and perhaps I will do a list of James Bond films when Quantum of Solace releases, but for now this list is without a Bond film. I also didn't add any of the films from The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Isn't It Too Early for a Superman Restart?

24 August 2008 5:49 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Superman is tired, let's give him another 15-20 years to cool off some more. He battled Gene Hackman in 1978, Terence Stamp in 1980, himself in 1983, Gene Hackman again in 1987 and then Kevin Spacey as Gene Hackman in 2006. Don't you think 2011 may be a bit too soon to bring him back? As fanboys got their quick fix of stock tips they also skimmed through the online version of the Wall Street Journal and came across an article by Lauren A.E. Schuker discussing the future of Warner Bros. and their hope to have eight big budget films a year by 2011. A staggering number if you ask me. Apparently a bulk of those films will be occupied by superheroes as they have finally figured out that every 14-year-old in the world will go see a comic book movie even if Nic Cage is in it. On top of that, if you actually make

The Big Picture's Summer Box Office Post-Mortem

24 August 2008 5:19 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

With only one weekend left to consider for Summer 2008 - and considering it will only feature College, Babylon A.D., and Disaster Movie - this is the perfect time to reflect on the highs and lows of one of the biggest, if not the biggest, summer movie season ever.

Let's start by taking a look at the top ten films over the past four months, in terms of domestic box office:

1 - The Dark Knight ($500 million plus)

2 - Iron Man ($317 million)

3 - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($315 million)

4 - Hancock ($226 million)

5 - Wall-e ($216 million)

6 - Kung Fu Panda ($212 million)

7 - Sex and the City ($152 million)

8 - The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian ($141 million)

9 - The Incredible Hulk ($134 million)

10- Wanted ($133 million)

The dollars might shift a little bit, but outside of Wanted and Hulk, no movies are poised to change positions at this point, and no other

'Superman' Indeed Going to Be Rebooted

22 August 2008 9:11 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

After sparking a major question of where they are going to bring the next "Superman" movie, Warner Bros. Pictures have finally confirmed to start the project right from the scratch once again meaning that they are going to reboot the franchise. The confirmation of the remake has been offered by Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov to Wall Street Journal.

In Wall Street's recent article, Robinov stated that the decision to reintroduce the 'man of steel' has to be taken after the considerable failure of "Superman Returns". "Superman [Returns] didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to," Robinov said. "It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned. Had Superman worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009. But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all.

'Watchmen' Poster Comparison, Shia's Arm and 'Incredibles' Comic Book

21 August 2008 1:12 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Worthless information? Definitely, but do you love it? Of course you do!

24 hour sale on all 21 James Bond films on DVD for only $95.99, that's $4.58 per movie. Uh, click here while it is still available. You are going to love these Watchmen poster comparisons comparing the new character posters to the original posters for the graphic novel. The skinny on the movie based on the DC Comics character Green Lantern says the "story follows the traditional Hal Jordan/Green Lantern story lines to a certain degree" and that the "major difference is in the Sinestro character arc." I have no idea what any of that means so you will have to figure it out for yourself. Pixar's The Incredibles are getting four comic book sequels in April 2009. However, it appears a Happy Feet 2 may be on its way in movie form. Then again, George Miller may be busy with Mad Max 4, Babe 3 and Justice League.

New 'Pride and Glory' Trailer

20 August 2008 11:05 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

I am sure the decision on New Line's part not to release Pride and Glory earlier had a lot to do with how sh!tty We Own the Night was considering they are both cop stories dealing with corruption. Fortunately Pride and Glory has a little bit more going for it by way of Ed Norton and Colin Farrell (an actor decidedly on his game). The new trailer actually came my way late last week, but I took my time moving on it until now. I have added it below and if you want to check it out in QuickTime or Windows Media player I have the links here. The funny thing about this film is that none of the release date controversy swirling around it has anything to do with Ed Norton, the way it did with The Incredible Hulk. Gotta wonder just how much of that was a bunch of bullsh!

DVD Links: Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed Star Trek - The Complete Second Season (Remastered) It's a light week for DVD releases and that is a good thing since you all need to shell out some extra dollars for the second season of the original series of "Star Trek" as Paramount releases the remastered episodes in all their glory. I am a bit upset that I currently have the HD DVD/DVD edition of the first season and now I have to add the DVD only second season to my collection without any high definition just as I will in the recently announced third season of the remastered set when it hits in November. However, Paramount hasn't sent me the second season for review yet (and who knows if they will) so I can't comment on the set itself, but I do know if they don't send it

The Incredible Hulk DVD Cover

19 August 2008 7:01 AM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Hey guys, the cover for The Incredible Hulk 3-disc special edition DVD has been revealed. All you fans of the Not-so-jolly Green Giant take a peek inside and let us know if the cover is cool enough to be included in the hallowed ranks of your DVD collection.

Hulk-smashing epic? Or generic action-figure pose? You be the judge.

Now, if you have a good memory you’ll recall all that controversy concerning Edward Norton bumping heads with Marvel execs over which cut of Tih should be released. Marvel wanted the leaner, more action-driven story we all saw in theaters, while Norton was pushing for a longer, more character-driven cut of the film. So will Norton’s cut make it onto the DVD? (Three discs Is a lot of DVD to fill.)

Guess we’ll have to wait and see when The Incredible Hulk DVD goes on sale. No word yet on the exact release date.

This story has, in previous years, been adapted into Jason and the Argonauts, among several other books/ TV series/ films,” says the site.
