I have seen Meliza Banales perform this poem live and she was amazing. The director / screenwriter did a great job with the adaptation and keeping to the original work.
The cinematography was artistic and beautiful. I was surprised that a short film could arouse such emotion. (maybe, I have seen too many bad shorts to still have faith). There were a few dry eyes towards the end of the movie but not too many.
And the great thing, it is an empowering film. Not one of those "oh, look how bad I had it, I had to make a movie about it so everyone would know how hard my life was." This film restores hope amidst all those negative things we hear in the media about working class families.
Rumor has it the film will be shown in several more film festivals over the next year. I would highly recommend seeing it!!!!
