This is what I knew about the plot of 'Love of my Life' beforehand: a girl was going to introduce her girlfriend to her parents, thereby finding out that both her parents are gay as well. Therefore, I thought I was going to watch a nice little lesbian comedy and was really looking forward to it.
However, this 'plot' turned out to be dealt with within the first minutes of the film. After that everybody had told everyone else how he or she felt about it and that everything was alright. All of them were happy and the next problem occurred to be solved in a similar simplifying way. It was like watching a list of more or less 'typical' problems being worked through one after the other, always ending in total happiness eventually. The movie picks up complex problems and reduces them to little sweet episodes without any depth. It tries to educate its viewers at the expense of development of a good plot line. This makes it appear unrealistic, naive and also boring.
Obviously, it's much more designed to be a movie for teenagers than for adults and it was the fault of my cinema not to advertise it as such. But still, it's rather unimaginative and definitely not exactly recommendable for adults.
