Chuck is the latest in a distinguished line of TV shows, plays, and
films that explore an American archtype - the reactions of a normal,
decent person when thrust in extraordinary circumstances. Zach Levi has
a real Jimmy Stewart quality in this funny and well layered show, which
is as much about Chuck's effect on jaded superspy professionals as it
is about his slow awakening to his own potential. The they want to but
can't love story between Chuck and his protector, the luminous Sarah
Walker, is both sweet and heartbreaking (think Pam and Jim of "The
Office", but with no real shot at happily ever after. Adam Baldwin is a
hidden gem, striking exactly the right note of grumpy babysitter
gradually won over by Chuck's essential decency and kindness.
Highly recommended.

From the previews, it would have appeared that this show has an
interesting twist from the typical rhetoric of the genre. But that is
not the case. All summer we were "duped" into believing this was going
to be Mr. Magoo meets Jane Bond. A regular Joe with a doofus complex
meets Mrs. America gone international spy. He is unaware of her "secret
identity" and she's aware that he unknowingly knows something he
shouldn't, and that she might have to kill him at any second. This is
not the plot at all, and would have been network gold if it was, in my
opinion.
Instead we have a typical ridicules plot about a goofball of-a-guy that
receives an EMAIL that contains all of the government's secrets and
overloads his brain with every detail. Extraordinary piece of
technology Email is. To implant all of the knowledge of the
government's secrets into the brain, that he can only access at the
exact time it is needed. Whaaa? It suddenly seems that I'm watching
Joss Whedon's Angel ala spy-games via Johnny Mnemonic. Were you can
expect every week's story to involve Chuck having "visions" that lead
himself and his heroin on adventures that bring them closer to solving
the mystery of whether or not Chuck can score with this spy-babe. And
there might be some hilarity thrown in, but I doubt it. This "piece"
has all the appeal of a shiny object to a bird. No doubt the fans of
claptrap will love it...

The writers strike messed a lot of things up. "Chuck" hung on and
turned out to be one of the two returning shows, the other being
"Life". "Chuck" is a great show, and the promos do it no justice. The
writing is spot-on, character development is much better than other
shows I've seen. Each episode is not drawn out to force you to watch
season one to under season two. Zachary Levi's character is a little
James Bond, MacGyver, and Screech. With each episode your guaranteed
action of some sort, Nerd Herd Cage Fighting to NSA planted C-4
explosives. They don't try to go over the top either to make it corny,
like "Get Smart". Please watch if its something that might interest
you. Its way better than some stuff out there. In two words: Great
Show!

Through a series of 'forgettable spy movie clichés', a regular guy from
the local electronic store gets all the secrets of the government
downloaded into his subconscious. Of course, this brings interest from
the unavoidable 'powerful government agency clichés'. The CIA agent
(romantic interest) and the NSA agent (sorta pointless other guy) must
sorta protect him while sorta trying to get information from him while
sorta trying to make the audience laugh on occasion.
Based on the first two shows, Chuck is a muddled mess... but it can be
amusing at times. In the title role, Zachary Levi is likable but he
doesn't seem to know whether to play it straight or go for a laugh.
When a legitimate laugh does appear, the "spy clichés" pop out and stop
any momentum. I don't think it's much of a spoiler to say that Chuck
probably isn't going to die or get brutally tortured. So when the show
plays it's spy stuff with a relative straight face and tries to deliver
tension, it's just a waste of time.
The writers might have something with Chuck and Sarah, as the actors
appear to have potential for some chemistry... but the show needs to
find a direction. Right now, it's some interesting ideas wrapped in a
bunch of clunky spy games.

Chuck is a regular guy who gets sent governments secrets through an
email by a former college buddy who works/worked for the CIA, now these
secrets are stuck in his head.
Now Chuck must manage his regular life and the life of a spy without
letting anyone find out. Chuck works at the Buy More were he is a
member of the Nerd Heard (which is a Best Buy spoof). Agent Casey also
works at the Buy More where he is able to keep a close eye on Chuck,
while agent Walker plays Chuck's girlfriend also working across the
street at the Winnerlicious.
For the most part it is a creative and well written show full of humor
and action. NBC may have hit the jackpot with The Office but Chuck
could turn into NBC's next best thing.

While its NOT perfect.. I think "Chuck" is quite the unique show.. and
in another reviewer's thoughts it fails in ALL of its areas? Ummm.. no.
I think the ensemble of the "threesome" as it were is what makes the
show funny.. the Regan loving gun nut Casey who definitely has a few
secrets of his own.. How did he get so dour? was he always like that..
check out the first season "Chuck vs. the undercover lover".
But.. all in all.. It's really a very formulaic show but with a twist..
a normal guy is inadvertently given secrets and two competing agencies
(the FBI and NSA) both put their best agents work undercover in his
life, which can wreak quite the amount of havoc.
The show walks quite the fine line.. while serving up some light geek
humor.. while also delivering not exactly 24 level type of ACTION.. but
is a nice blend of a romantic tension (yeah.. it'll be going on
FOREVER.. does no one here remember Moonlighting? the minute they
hooked up.. the show was OVER!). I don't think Chuck can quite run as
long on this premise as Moonlighting (t years) but the show is quite
fun in doling out little bits you don't quite understand.. for example
I thought the episode "Chuck vs. the Alma Mater" was a special
highlight... it somehow works in crazy comedy.. a romance.. and
friendship and they still find time for the occasional spy stuff too..
If you're looking for a romance show? this ain't it.. a high octane
guns blazing show? nope.. not it.. something that has more of a quirky
sense of humor.. a dash of romance.. and just some great cameos, John
Laroqueete in the second episode of season 2 springs immediately to
mind.. then yes.. you will enjoy this show.. otherwise, its probably
not for you.. then again not all shows are made for EVERYONE, I just
happen to think that as of now in its second season Chuck is quite fun
still and has yet to have the devastating crash of FOX's Prison Break..
while I enjoyed the first 2 years.. the third was kinda meh.. and the
fourth.. well I've just given up on it entirely.. there are VERY few
network shows I watch and this is one of the few exceptions I make..
and considering I rarely watch new shows.. I consider that, for me and
the folks involved, quite the mean feat...
not only do you have to be laughing.. enjoying the quirky humor.. but
wanting things to work out.. when you know they never really will and
then seeing how it all falls apart is part of the fin.. Chuck is the
average Joe thrown headfirst into the spy world.. and somehow.. he
seems to always come out on top.. he's the guy you root for when.. in
any movie this would be the clumy spy who has his head blown off in the
first scene.. but Levi's quirky sense of humor.. and just.. plain
likability is really what makes you stay with the show at first.. then
you get to enjoy the other characters.. like the love life of "Awesome"
and Ellie.. the dysfunctional romance of Morgan and Anna (who is a
riot.. both are actually).. and the on again.. off again..might just
happen relationship with Chuck and Sarah.. all in all.. its not going
to change the world.. but maybe it will give you something to enjoy for
the week.. I LOVE 24, even though its going down.. but.. can't say I
laugh and LOVE the characters.. I enjoy the stories.. the themes.. and
some of the ideas they play with.. whereas Chuck has no real deep
themes.. or political mechanations.. its just a quirky character
comedy.. that happens to involve spies.

Chuck is a series about an average Joe leading an average life who's
suddenly involved with the CIA, NSA after all of the government's
secrets get downloaded in Chuck's brain. So, the series is basically
about Chuck trying to deal with the fact that he now has a double life
(working at a local electronics shop and helping his guardians complete
missions), being at great risk of being killed every second of his life
and lastly; being in love with the beautiful CIA agent Sarah Walker.
This all makes for a rather refreshing mixture of action and comedy.
Even though the comedy in this series are kept quite light and easy,
the emphasize on action never makes for a dull moment really. If you're
open for it and you can grow to like the characters in this series this
will be a nice one to follow up on. If you're looking for 'ha-ha-ha'
series or something that's super action packed than you really should
be moving through.
The acting in Chuck is quite different than in other series, if I were
to compare it to another series I would say Merlin has the same kind of
character developmental desires such as Chuck. Taking it slow and
wanting to keep people's attention (which is a good thing considering a
full episode lasts for about 40 minutes of actual show time).
All in all I would like to recommend you to watch at least two or three
episodes to see if you're into this series. It can make for an awesome
evening.

I was a little bit skeptical at first about this show but after
catching a few episodes on Virgin 1, it inspired me to buy it on DVD
and I was pleasantly surprised at how fun it was.
Its like a send up of every spy genre and film, packed with geeky
humour and some pretty impressive action sequences. The production also
is pretty slick, but thats par the course for American TV shows
(British TV is catching up) I liked Adam Baldwin in Firefly and its
cool to see his talents on another show.
The rest of the cast is also excellent and just makes for a nice show.

Firstly, I am a big big movie and television series fans. I have
watched many of both, and Chuck is really one of my all time favorites.
It seems some wanna-be critics think it's not deep enough or too
cliché, but I bought the season 1 DVD's after seeing only a few
episodes, and have already watched it through several times (I sat
through the entire season on my first time through). This isn't one of
those shows that takes itself too seriously, it's a lot of fun to
watch, and you get to really like the characters. Naturally, everyone
will not laugh at every joke, but I feel there's something for
everyone. There were parts where I laughed and my girlfriend didn't and
vice versa, and there were many moments where I found myself on the
floor. You know those shows where you get to love the world and
characters so much that when the season ends you feel like you actually
miss the people in it, this is one of them. If you haven't already,
check it out!

What can be said about the sad creative mess that is Chuck? It is one
pathetic attempt at humor after another and they all fall flat on their
face. The humor is so out of sync and out of sorts that it actually
comes across as insulting.
The high-tech facade of the show may fool some viewers into giving this
a chance, but they will soon leave after watching the actors painfully
trying to make sense of nonsensical dialogue and absurd situations.
Apparently, after the quick cancellation of Bionic Woman, Chuck has
become NBC's anointed show for the year. It says a lot more about the
paucity of shows on NBC than about any quality inherent to Chuck.
If you have avoided this so far, keep it up. It's complete waste of
time.
