While promoting today’s DVD release of The Happening, M. Night Shyamalan spoke about a possibly sequel to his super-powered story, Unbreakable.
During a press conference, the stylish director admitted, "How bizarre. I want to write it right now, but I want to write it for the right reasons. I want a story to pop into my head that is organic and expressive of who I am. You know, these are all kind of journals of where I am emotionally, so it's kind of hard. I'm kind of trying to go back to the journal that existed in 1999 for me. But I know me: As soon as I give up on it is when the idea will come to me. It's just I need to go into therapy; I guess that's the end of that answer to this."
Of course, given the tepid reception his last efforts have received, the

Just a couple of weeks ago, M. Night Shyamalan told MTV he was thinking about developing a sequel to his 2000 mystery thriller “Unbreakable.” Now he’s definitely considering it. But what does that really mean?
In a recent interview with Sci Fi, the director said the initial mixed reaction to “Unbreakable” kept him from getting started on a follow-up right away.
"I felt really hurt, and I couldn't bring myself to write," he said. Yet, time has passed, and Shyamalan is more than ready to get started on the project. Here’s what’s going on in his head right now:
"I want to write it right now, but I want to write it for the right reasons. I want a story to pop into my head that is organic and expressive of who I am. You know, these are all kind of journals of where I am emotionally, so it's kind of hard.

First off, I’ll say my favorite M. Night Shyamalan film and the one I feel is most re-watchable is Unbreakable. The comic book-based film was released in 1999 and featured a cast of two A-list actors in Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson.
When Unbreakable first came out, it was met with mixed criticism. Although it later became a hit and one of the better films under his belt, M. Night was discouraged from continuing on with that idea due to some of the negative initial reaction to the movie.
That mixed response was nothing compared to what he faced with his more recent films. Mr. Shyamalan has really hurt his fan base with his last two features: Lady in the Water and The Happening. Both of these films earned lower-than-expected box office gross and were met with overwhelmingly negative feedback (including here at Screen Rant).
Now is the time

If there's one sequel that I'd definitely love to see, it would be that of M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable. I know I'm not the only one who loves that movie and I know I'm not the only one who wants to see a sequel. Unbreakable opened in theaters in November of 2000, which makes it nearly eight years since the film first arrived. SciFi was talking with Shyamalan during a promotion for The Happening and got him to comment on the idea of another Unbreakable. "I want to write it right now, but I want to write it for the right reasons," Shyamalan told them. Is this finally the news we've all been waiting to hear for years?! This might finally be a dream come true. By this point in time, I thought it would never happen. But apparently Shyamalan really wants to find the right story. "I want a

Adam Sandler wandering into topical territory, actually making sense, and stll making the funny? I was surprised too! Don't worry, he still packs in plenty of juvenile gags about the outlandish size of his package and drags in every ancient ethnic stereotype possible, but as an Israeli intelligence operative who wants to become a hairdresser, he pulls off the neat trick of creating a completely silly character in a wish-fulfillment scenario that, well, nearly everyone wants to see. Rent it. Available rated (theatrical cut) on a single-disc DVD and unrated in single-disc and double-disc DVD editions. The Blu-ray includes both the rated and unrated versions.
Maybe the inclusion of "over 1 hour of intense bonus footage not shown in theaters!" -- extended versions of "Lion Attack" and Survivalist Porch" among them -- will convert me.

Psycho, Rear Window and Vertigo If you haven't yet checked out my Movie Magic article from Monday it was inspired by the audio commentary from Psycho and I have yet to check out the special features for either Rear Window or Vertigo, but I did get a chance to watch Vertigo just last night. While Psycho is great and Rear Window may be my favorite Hitchcock film I have no idea what people see in Vertigo. That film is long and for the most part downright boring. I don't think the con pulled on Scottie is all that intriguing and the hokey dialogue is just too much to bear. The AFI recently named Vertigo the ninth best American movie ever made, with Psycho at 14 and Rear Window at 48. Maybe I am in the minority, but Vertigo

MovieWeb caught up with M. Night Shyamalan to talk about the upcoming release of The Happening on DVD and Blu-ray. During the interview, Night had some words on his next project, The Last Airbender. “It is gonna be really cool (Laughs). I’m at the stage where we have pre-vized the last act of the movie. Because my normal approach to filmmaking is almost like making an animated movie, you take out every shot and analyze everything, it kind of lays out really nicely for a big CGI movie. That is such a helpful thing in the process with all the pre-viz. I feel like I’m making the movie right now. I’m editing it and stuff because doing the pre-viz, if you were here, I could show you the last 30 minutes of The Last Airbender in animatic form. It’s an amazing and emotional experience, just to watch that.

Saturday Night Live is generally good for one political sketch and one randomly funny sketch of another variety. On last night's show, hosted by Anne Hathaway, that's exactly what the SNL gang delivered. The show's opening once again starred Tina Fey as Sarah Palin, busting out the hockey mom funny, and then towards the end they haphazardly dropped in this bit of genius: Mark Wahlberg Talks To Animals. The premise, is simple. Andy Samberg plays Mark Wahlberg, talking to various barnyard animals. Mark: After The Happening to totally had it coming. M. Night Shyamalan appears to have no intention of moving away from our genre at all. I guess that's good news for his fans who were not bummed out by The Village, Signs, or even the big windbag known as The Happening (review).
Bloody Disgusting's Spooky Dan spoke with the filmmaker about his next project and what we can expect on The Happening DVD.
The interesting bit came when M. Night mentioned it may only be a couple of more years before another Shyamalan experience comes haunting (he has three ideas in mind already), "One is more straight-up scary, one is more lighthearted scary - kind of more in the Signs vein, which I had a great time doing the lighter end on that one - the other one isn’t… well, it's not Gothic… but I am always in that world when I am working on original ideas. This morning SpookyDan had the chance to chat with Director M. Night Shyamalan about his forthcoming DVD/Blu-ray release of The Happening, which arrives in stores October 7th from Fox Home Entertainment. During the interview he revealed that he has ideas for three more scary movies, one of which he hopes to be shooting by 2010. When a series of unusual events begins to draw the attention of the worlds population, high school teacher Elliot Moore (Mark Wahlberg), his wife Alma (Zooey Deschanel) and their family go on the run. Their attempt to avoid becoming victims of these bizarre occurrences develops into a desperate fight for survival as an apocalyptic crisis threatens humanity.

I just managed to checkout an early screener of The Happening on DVD and it is something I have been looking forward to. The film has gotten very mixed reviews from film fans but I have always been a fan of M. Night Shyamalan's and tend to enjoy his movies more then typical movie fans do. So when I popped in his latest apocalyptic tale I was pretty excited. The cast is top notch with Mark Wahlberg Zooey Deschannel and John Lequizamo. Little side note I have no idea if it was intentional to make the characters look more real but John had some of the worst nic stains on his teeth ( from smoking ...

M. Night Shyamalan. With the exception of the Wachowski’s, no other director in recent memory has gone from the top of the heap to the top of the hate as fast as the thirty-eight year old multi-hyphenate. While June’s already-forgotten-about The Happening did not help his case, Shyamalan’s adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, due in 2010, should help him bounce back a bit from his last two efforts. Love him or hate him, the man is one of the few unique visionaries left in a business of interchangeable hired-hand filmmakers. In my opinion, the mind that gave us The Sixth Sense and the better, underrated Unbreakable should never be entirely discredited. And now, speaking of Unbreakable, Shyamalan offers MTV some thoughts on the never-realized follow-up to the 2000 film. “I tell you I get asked about it all the time, so it’s not [an idea] I ever forget,” Shyamalan told MTV News.

Just two or three years ago, the news that M. Night Shyamalan was considering making a second Unbreakable would have sent me into paroxysms of uncontrollable glee. It still think it's one of the most underrated movies of the past ten years, and by far the best work M. Night Shyamalan has ever done. Now though, I've endured The Village, suffered through The Happening, and it's hard not to wonder if the guy who made Unbreakable even still exists. Let's hope he does, because Night tells MTV that Unbreakable 2 may be on his radar. Shyamalan says, "I genuinely just asked this question the other day - should I make Unbreakable 2?" As for why he hasn't already done it, Night claims he got caught up in obsessing over some of the negative reviews the movie received from people who, well, went in expecting the wrong thing. Now that Night has made

MTV has a curious quote from Mark Wahlberg recounting a bit of advice give to him from The Happening director M. Night Shyamalan. "[Night] gave me the worst advice he could have ever given me. He said, 'After [The Happening], you can never hold a gun again. You know that, right?' I said, 'Are you crazy?' He said, 'I'm serious, don't ever hold a gun again.' And I said, 'I don't know about that, man.'" Ironically enough that advice is quickly out the window as Wahlberg's gun laden follow-up to The Happening, Max Payne, hits theaters on October 17. However, the reason I use the headline above is due to the fact it looks like Payne could go either way with very little middle ground. I currently sit on the fence with the film after the trailers and footage I have seen, but I am intrigued for sure.

There’s a brand new (and probably final) trailer out for Max Payne starring Mark Wahlberg. It’s very cool looking and stylish, but neither of the trailers we’ve seen so far give us too much of what the actual movie will be like when it’s not in slo-mo with things flying through the air.
I’ll say again I have zero familiarity with the video game this movie is based on - and so far video game to movie transitions have not been very good (to put it mildly). Just based on the trailer, this big screen version of Max Payne looks interesting. Then again, Hitman looked pretty good in its trailers, didn’t it?
Also, a couple of days ago Wahlberg was talking to the folks over at MTV and had this to say:
“This is like my character from ‘The Departed,’ ‘Fear,’ ‘Four Brothers,’ all mixed into one,
