(in a nutshell)
SINASAMBA KITA Possibly one of the best soap opera to come out of Philippine TV. Director Joel Lamangan assured the audience that he has not lost his touch in melodramas. Merged with a beautifully written script by Don Michael Perez; the characters are written with such passion. All of the four main characters have their own prospectives. Carlo Aquino delivers an award-winning calibre-performance.
PATI BA PINTIG NG PUSO In her first leading role, Yasmien Kurdi is joined by JC de Vera in a melodramatic cat-and-dog love story between a rich boy who marries a poor girl to make his grandfather's life in pain for causing him much sorrow. Generally a good series during its beginning thanks to director Gil Tejada, Jr., but due to extensions, the story seemed to lost its pinch and touch.
KUNG MAHAWI MAN ANG ULAP Stairway to Heaven: Philippine Version, though different it does share some similarities. Nadine Samonte and Dennis Trillo, once again, shows Philippine television that they are two of the best actor and actress of their time. Director Mac Alejandre jumps back to his best after he lost his "touch" in directing for quite some time. Des Garbes-Severino and co-writer Gilda Olvidado made a demon in human form through Gardo Versoza in a very acclaimed performance, and a devil out of Iwa Moto who proves that she should have one StarStruck 3. KMMAU is the best Sine Novela, along with SK.
PASAN KO ANG DAIGDIG A back-to-back melodrama thrill with Yasmien Kurdi and JC de Vera, who after finishing PBPNP, continued to reign in the scene with PKAD, but now, with auteur Joel Lamangan at the helm. Love and music at the backdrop of the "Payatas", the cast certainly delivers, but, not because of extensions cause it didn't have any, I believe that PKAD was too long for its own good. But it is still better than PBPNP, solely because of the acting.
MY ONLY LOVE Heartless villains. What more can you want? My Only Love was a very promising series in the beginning, before its pilot. Bad beginnings and good endings are usually ABS-CBN's thing, MOL was like that, I blame director Louie Ignacio - people should stop hiring him. Acting wise, the series was very mediocre (with the exception of Rita Avila, who played an excellent "crazy"), Mark Herras and Rhian Ramos (the leads) were able to show their acting potential after Ignacio was replaced by gifted newbie director Topel Lee. Though beautifully written by Des Garbes-Severino, the series suffered much because of Ignacio.
