I often wonder why Boston Legal is categorized as a drama and not a comedy. With its quirky characters and often inane subplots, BL is often more funny than dramatically compelling. "True Love" forced me to rethink this attitude about the show. In it, Alan and Denny are defending a prominent doctor who is accused of murdering his young mistress. The doctor just happens to be married to lawyer Phoebe Prentiss, Alan's ex whom he is still carrying a torch for. When Alan tells Phoebe that her alibi story is a little less than convincing, Phoebe states under oath that her husband left the house on the night of the murder and did not return until 3 AM. Be sure to watch to the very end of the episode as there is a mother of a twist. And prepare to be surprised by the fact that Alan Shore, one of the most cunningly unethical lawyers ever to appear on television gets taken for a ride.
